๐ŸฃIt's Fledgling Season! ๐Ÿฅ

It's that time of the year where young birds are learning to fly, we know loads of people are keen to help them which is lovely but If you see a young bird on the ground, it usually does not need rescuing, fledglings leave the nest before they can fully fly and spend a few days hopping around while their parents continue feeding and protecting them nearby! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š

What to do if you see one:
โœ… Move the bird only If the bird is in immediate danger (road, pavement, exposed area), move it only a short distance to nearby cover such as shrubs or a low branch.
โœ… Leave the bird where it is if it appears alert and uninjured and in a safe space.
โœ… Contact a wildlife rehabilitator if the bird is injured and follow their advice before picking the bird up.
โœ… Watch from a distance as parents are often close by

Please donโ€™t pick up healthy fledglings unless theyโ€™re injured or at risk. Giving them space gives them the best chance to survive. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’š Itโ€™s National Rescue Dog Day! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿพ

Today, weโ€™re celebrating the incredible work of rescue charities, foster carers, and adopters who help give dogs the second chance they deserve ๐Ÿถโœจ

Pictured are gorgeous Archie and Carter- two rescue dogs who are now living their best lives with members of our team ๐Ÿ’š

Archie was rescued from a small independent charity in Kent after spending time in foster care. He was just 7 months old when the charity took him in and was sadly very underweight ๐Ÿ˜ฅ.
Now, Archie is absolutely thriving with our RVN George, and her family. These days, his favourite things are snoozing on the sofa and chasing tennis balls ๐ŸŽพ๐Ÿ˜ด.

Carter was rescued from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in 2018 by our lovely Clinical Nursing Manager, Jess, and he has been her furry shadow ever since. Jess says she was certain she wanted a spaniel, but the moment she met Carter she instantly fell in love with his d***y, loving personality, and the rest is history! Carter has recently become a big brother to his human baby sister, and Jess says heโ€™s been absolutely amazing with her ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿพ.

Rescue dogs really do make the most wonderful companions! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿพ Meet Georgia! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ

Georgia is one of the friendly faces at our Vet4life Teddington clinic and has been part of the team for 5 years! ๐Ÿ’š

After graduating from the University of Bristol in 2019, Georgia began her career in mixed practice, caring for animals both big and small. In April 2021, she joined Vet4life to follow her passion for working with small animals ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ˜ธ.

When asked what she loves most about her job, Georgia says itโ€™s the amazing team she works with and the fact that no two days in practice are ever the same.

Outside of work, Georgia enjoys:
๐Ÿด Horse riding
๐Ÿ‘ Playing hockey
๐Ÿ›ซ Travelling to new places

Weโ€™re so lucky to have Georgia as part of the Vet4life family! ๐Ÿ’š

Grass seed season is fast approaching! ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿพ

From around May, through to August, grass seeds become a common problem for our pets. Although they may look harmless, their sharp shape means they can easily attach to your petโ€™s fur and become lodged in the ears, paws, nose, or even under the skin especially in the armpits and groin.

Once attached, grass seeds can burrow deeper into the body, causing pain, irritation, infection, and swelling. Ouch! ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

โš ๏ธ Signs to watch out for:
- Excessive licking or chewing at paws
- Head shaking or scratching at the ears
- Redness, swelling, or limping
- Sneezing or nasal discharge
- Eye redness or squinting or discharge

โœ… Prevention tips:
- Check your pet thoroughly after walks, especially paws, ears, armpits, groin and between the toes
- Keep fur trimmed around the feet and ears
- Avoid long, dry grass where possible
- Invest in protective ear and feet wear

If you notice any of these signs or think your pet may have picked up a grass seed, donโ€™t hesitate to give us a call, our lovely vet Lily will be very happy to take a look as you can see! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’š
