🐾 Your Dog Is Learning All The Time — Make Sure It’s The Right Lessons
Your dog is learning from you every single day, whether you realise it or not.
Every interaction, every walk, every doorway and every decision you make teaches your dog something. The behaviours we consistently allow are the behaviours that become habits.
That’s why boundaries, structure and consistency are so important. Too much freedom without guidance can quickly lead to unwanted behaviours — pulling on the lead, ignoring you, becoming over-excited or struggling to focus when distractions appear.
Training doesn’t need to mean spending hours drilling commands. Some of the best training happens during everyday life.
Ask for a calm sit before opening the door.
Reward your dog for checking in with you on a walk.
Practise walking nicely for a few minutes instead of allowing the whole walk to be chaos.
Teach them that listening to you is worthwhile, even when something exciting is happening.
Those small moments might not seem significant at the time, but repeated consistently, they can make a huge difference.
Remember: you’re teaching your dog something whether you mean to or not.
So ask yourself — are your everyday interactions creating the dog you want, or accidentally reinforcing the behaviours you don’t? 🐶🌿
