Early morning walk to beat the heat, followed by an afternoon of home visits 🐾🏡

During hot weather, we adapt our routine in line with our Hot Weather Policy to ensure every dog stays cool, comfortable, and happy because their welfare always comes first 🥰

Dog walkers are in a position of trust.
When owners hand over their dogs, they're trusting you to put their welfare first. During a heatwave, that means recognising when it's simply too hot to walk. Hot pavements can burn paws, high temperatures can lead to heatstroke, and some dogs are at even greater risk due to their age, breed, or health.

A responsible dog walker adapts to the weather offering early morning walks, choosing shaded routes, providing home visits instead of walks, or postponing walks altogether when temperatures make it unsafe

Caring for dogs isn't about completing the day's walks it’s about making the right decision for their health and wellbeing.

No walk is worth risking a dog's life. Stay safe, keep dogs cool, and always put welfare first ❤️🐶

Look, I'm not one to dis other walkers... but when I've just watched a walker throwing balls for dogs and geeing them all up, in this hot sun, it's hard to turn a blind eye. No respite from the sun, and not a bowl of water in sight.
Not that any amount of water would save a dog from heatstroke, once past the point of no return.
But.... Owners also need to take responsibility for who walks their dogs, and whether that walker is making the right decisions, and for the right reasons.
If you are thinking of using a walker, make sure they are meeting you and your dog BEFORE any walks take place, and ask questions... LOOOTS of questions. Make sure they know about dog wellness, and have knowledge of canine care, (especially in a heatwave), aswell as how to hold the end of a lead!!

This sweet staffie is Luna 🐶💖

I took these pictures on our first pet sit together. We had lots of fun burning off some energy in the garden, followed by a tasty lick mat to help her relax. And of course, there were plenty of cuddles too!
