Heat Wave Alert! ☀️🔔
Summer has arrived, and so has the risk of heatstroke. Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency that develops rapidly.

Protect your furry family members with these essential safety steps:

🚫 Avoid Day Time Walks: Do not exercise pets in the midday heat. Hot pavement can also severely burn paw pads.
✅ Cool Walkies: Walk them in the early morning or late evening once temperatures drop.
❌ Never Leave Pets in Cars: Temperatures inside a parked car can become fatal in minutes.
✅ Stay Hydrated & Shaded: Provide constant access to shade and fresh, cool water.
✅ Keep Them Entertained: Use frozen lick mats, ice treats, and fans to keep them cool indoors.

🚨 Signs of Heatstroke to Watch For:
* Heavy panting or breathing in distress
* Sticky, dry gums
* Lethargy, wobbling, or collapsing
* Confusion or seizures

🏥 What to Do in an Emergency:
Act quickly! Move your pet to a shaded area, cool them down with room-temperature water and a fan, and call us immediately.

📅 Our Bank Holiday Opening Hours:
* Saturday: Open 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
* Sunday: Open 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM
* Monday: CLOSED

📞 Emergency Contact:
If we are closed and you have an emergency, you will be directed to our out of hours.

Pip recently had a weight transformation and is fitter than ever at the ripe age of 16 years old !

She was placed on a monthly injection of librela and intermittent pain relief for over a year, due to weight dependent lameness. Her weight was 11kg !!

Her quality of life was poor, she struggled with steps, the sofa, the stairs. She experienced over heating in the summer. Her fitness was limited and energy levels low.

Her diet was switched to the Royal Canin Satiety, to combat her greedy streak which keeps her fuller for longer. And a good exercise regime !

During her transformation and a 32% weight loss Pip now weighs 7.4kg !!! And is now librela free, pain relief free and able to live a longer, happier and healthier life.

Weight loss can be one of the safest and cheapest methods of treating osteoarthritis as well as many other health conditions related to excessive weight!!

Did you know ?
- A 6.10% - 8.85% weight loss provides the same pain relieving effects and anti inflammatory effects as giving pain relief.

If you think your pet needs a weight transformation, give us a call 📞 and we are on hand to help.

May is Veterinary Nurse Awareness month!!!

A chance to put the spotlight on our amazing, talented, patient and caring RVNs and SVNs. Behind the scenes our nurses are kept busy, from monitoring anaesthetics, providing surgical assistance, laboratory testing to patient recovery. Our nurses provide a voice for those in our care by offering a comforting hand often with some cat nip or a squeaky toy.

Our nurses are true professionals who make your patients health their top priority. Show our nurses some love in the comments 🤍 Peak Vets would not be the same without them !!! Thank you to our Nursing Team.

Ashleigh recently visited 608 Vets in Birmingham to complete some basic CPR training with their team. 💥

Ashleigh is a trained instructor, who worked with the team to practice a range of CPR techniques, ECG readings and simulations for a variety of crash scenarios.

A vital skill for our veterinary community to keep up to date, to ensure our patients have the best chance in the scariest of situations.

Summer bod ready 🏝️

It’s the run up to Summer and our pets should feel as good as we do with their weight. It’s never too late to start them on their bikini body weight loss plan. 👙 🐶 🐱

In the UK 1 out of 14 dogs are recorded at the vets as overweight each year, and it’s estimated around 46% -60% of the UK dog population are obese or overweight.

How does this affect their health ? 😔
- Significantly reduces their lifespan
- Lowers their quality of life
- Leads to osteoarthritis of the joints and bones from excessive strain
- Cruciate ligament injuries
- Invertebrate disc disease
- Respiratory issues
- Cardiovascular issues
- High blood pressure
- Risk of developing diabetes mellitus
- Low energy levels
- Pain !!!
- Heatstroke
- Decrease in organ functions
And many more !!

How can we help ? 😊

At Peak Vets we offer a tailored weight clinic for your pets, this includes
- a veterinary approved portion control calculation to ensure your pets are getting the adequate calories needed to sustain their ideal body weight without under or over feeding them.
- Tracked measurements and progress pictures
- Advice, suggestions, support and encouragement
- Education around the most appropriate diet for your pets
- Exercise regime
- Judgement free atmosphere!!

Our pets can be shown love and kindness without the extra treats or table scraps 🤍 If you think your pet could benefit from this then give our team a call 📞

*** Lola underwent a summer body transformation after her cruiciate surgery. Lola utilised our weight clinics and switched to a royal canin satiety diet, which keeps her fuller for longer and has less calories. Lola is now feeling overall much happier with her healthy weight 🤍

Missed appointments‼️

We are seeing a high number of missed appointments lately, which means other pets are missing out on our care. At Peak Vets we understand life is hectic and emergencies happen , however please remember to call us and let us know !!

Why is this important you may ask ? A missed appointment could be given to another unwell pet. Help us keep our Peak Vets pets happy and healthy, by letting us know in advance. Thank you ! 🤍

Travel update !!!

On the 22nd of April a new law came to the UK, regarding UK pet residents travelling from Great Britain to Europe.

Pet passports are no longer valid when travelling from the UK to Europe, unless you can prove your main residence is in Europe.

So what do we need ?
- An Animal Health Certificate is needed from an Official Veterinarian to state your pet is fit to travel to your intended destination.

If you’re thinking of taking your pets to Europe, ensure you do your research and contact us with plenty of notice with your travel plans so we can accommodate you and your pets. 🌍

The countdown begins ⛰️

It’s just 11 days until our Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge! The countdown is on, our team and pooches have been training hard 🥾

This year our team have decided to raise money for RSPCA Bawtry. A team who we see day in and day out at Peak Vets. They deal with some of the most saddening stories, which our team holds very close to our hearts.

The RSPCA Bawtry is a dedicated team fighting against animal cruelty and freedom. Without donations, this charity would not be able to help as many as they do. However, there are still so many animals all over the UK who are fighting for a lifeline.

If you wish to support our team in our fundraising mission, there is still time! Please see the link below to donate !! 🐈‍⬛ 🐮 🐶 🐍 🐰 🦎 🐹 🦢
