Please keep your dogs safe in this weather, it is our job to protect them and they rely on us to keep them safe
“But my dog loves sunbathing” - Dogs don’t always know when they’ve had enough. While they may seek shade or stop playing when they’re uncomfortable, excitement can make them push themselves further than they should.
It’s our job to recognise the signs, provide shade, fresh water and plenty of breaks, and never leave them in hot environments.
Keep walks short and at the beginning or end of the day, avoid hot pavements (if you cannot keep your palm on the pavement for five seconds it is too hot for their paw pads), and always prioritise your dog’s wellbeing over exercise.
❗️Signs of Heatstroke in Dogs ❗️
Keep an eye out for heavy or excessive panting, excessive drooling, bright red or pale gums, weakness, wobbling, vomiting, diarrhoea, confusion, collapse or seizures.
Heatstroke can become life-threatening very quickly. If you suspect your dog is suffering from heatstroke, act immediately and contact a vet. Never wait for them to “cool down on their own.”
