🌰‼️CONKER WARNING!‼️🌰
Conkers are a familiar sight on autumn walks, something that we go and look for to show our kids but they can be dangerous for dogs. Conkers contain a toxin called aesculin, which can make dogs unwell if eaten. They can also become lodged in the stomach or intestines, potentially causing a serious blockage, particularly in smaller dogs.
Signs to look out for may include: 👇
🚫Vomiting or diarrhoea
🚫Drooling
🚫Abdominal pain
🚫Loss of appetite
🚫Restlessness or appearing unusually tired
Try to stop your dog from picking up or playing with conkers, because as we know prevention is often better than the cure. If you think your dog may have swallowed a conker, contact your vets for advice and don't wait for symptoms to develop. The same advice also goes for acorns too!
Keep dogs safe this autumn! 🐶🍂
