Now all those heat waves have come to an end summer is officially closing!

But with that comes the colder months approaching rapidly❄️

Unfortunately the cold often brings flare ups in our equine partners arthritic joints.

How can physiotherapy help your arthritic horse this winter?

Although arthritis cannot be cured it can be managed with promoting as much healthy synovial fluid production as possible lubricant the joints and therefore reduced painful symptoms. Physiotherapy achieves this is many ways including:
-Electrotherapies
-Joint mobilisations

🌙Luna’s Story!👇🏻

Luna started with pain relief and has begun veterinary led hydrotherapy sessions alongside to guide her rehabilitation following a diagnosed spinal condition. Myself, the vets, and Luna’s lovely owner re-assessed her sessions and realised she wasn’t fully benefiting from just hydrotherapy and pain relief to target her spinal symptoms.

I have helped Luna’s owner navigate further investigations where the vets diagnosed her with bilateral hip dysplasia which is why she wasn’t fully benefiting from her original treatment plan.

Following veterinary diagnosis as a hydrotherapist and physiotherapist I have been able to adapt her plan to suit her overall conditions where she is now progressing in the right direction!

Why is it important to use a properly qualified hydrotherapy centre?⬇️

Hydrotherapy isn’t just letting your dog randomly splash in water💦

💧As hydrotherapists we control many factors for guided rehabilitation programmes that are specific to each and every dog we see!👇🏻

-Warmer temperatures mean boosted circulation and better pain relief.
-Facilitating your dogs joints assist with muscle recruitment and gait re-education.
-We can even add in specific exercises to improve outcomes of therapy sessions further!
-Adjusting the water level appropriately to provide buoyancy for eased mobility or resistance to increase strengthening effects.
-Speed and Incline can both be increased to add further progressive challenges!

Coco see’s me for physiotherapy treatment due to a cruciate ligament injury.

Coco sustained a partial tear of her CCL (cranial cruciate ligament) and part of her conservative treatment pathway is physiotherapy rehabilitation.

I love working with the sweet Coco to get her on the right road to recovery!

I love using scatter poles as part of a diverse range of rehabilitation programmes, but why?⬇️
-Enhances a dog’s proprioception (ability to sense where their limbs are in relation to the body).
-Helps a dog to navigate deeper co-ordination skills through unpredictable environments.
-Better balance and stability through core muscle engagement.

Barry enjoys his time in the field…but sometimes a little too much…😆

Thankfully his owner contacted me to squeeze in an extra session to get him back on track after feeling a little sore from his silly adventures🤣🙌
