Why do I love my job?

A massive win for a client’s mare today, highlighting why we should never rule out "beans" in female horses.

6-7 years ago, a lump was identified in this mare’s cl****al fossa by another hygienist and subsequently checked by a vet; both concluded it was not a bean. Over the following years, the mare’s hind-end sensitivity escalated drastically. She became entirely untouchable around her tail, resisting brushing and tail bandages, and suffered from chronic itching that led to severe sores and secondary infections.

Today, during a thorough assessment and clean, we successfully located and removed a huge bean that had been overlooked for years. Actually one of the biggest I’ve ever removed from a mare!

The transformation was immediate. The moment it was removed, her entire demeanor changed. She completely relaxed, allowing us to lift, pull, and handle her tail with zero resistance or discomfort.

Seeing the instant relief in her horse, the owner was close to tears and gave me a huge hug—she was absolutely stunned by how quickly the situation turned around after years of searching for an answer.
While sm**ma accumulation (beans) is most commonly associated with geldings, mares frequently develop them in the cl****al fossa. If a mare exhibits chronic tail rubbing, extreme hind-quarter sensitivity, or unexplained behavioral changes, a thorough inspection of the cl****al fossa is essential.

A simple, professional cleaning can resolve years of hidden discomfort! 🧽🧼

Wow, what a whirlwind the past 3 weeks have been! 🚀🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I have been officially on the road, crisscrossing the country on a mission to tackle the grime no one else wants to talk about. From the lovely Scotland down through the beautiful hills of Cumbria, across the valleys of Yorkshire and Lancashire, all the way down into Wales, and wrapping up in Hertfordshire… it has been an incredibly busy but rewarding few weeks!

Let’s be honest, folks... it’s a dirty job, but *somebody* has to evict those hidden "beans" and clean up the sm**ma! 🧽🧼 I've seen things over the past 3 weeks that would make even the bravest equestrians blink, but your horses are all breathing a sigh of relief now.
One of the absolute highlights of the past few weeks was having the privilege to work with so many Equestrian centres and riding schools/collages. Its always an absolute joy to visit such a fantastic well run yard, and I’m incredibly grateful for the warm welcome and the opportunity to help look after their lovely horses keeping them healthy and comfortable.

🐾 Some Very Good Helpers
I wasn't entirely on my own out there, either! My two dogs, Bolt and Betty, came along for the ride and absolutely loved experiencing the wild Scottish weather. Whether it was wind, rain, or a rare spot of sunshine, they took it all in their stride (and definitely enjoyed the extra attention). 🐶🌧️

❤️ A Heartfelt Thank You
Beyond the usual cleaning, the past 3 weeks were a reminder of why doing this job thoroughly matters so much. During my checks, I flagged a few abnormalities within the sheaths of a few horses. I’m so relieved and grateful to say that all of those wonderful, proactive owners are already in touch with their own vets to get them sorted. It truly highlights how vital these checks are for our horses' wellbeing, and it means the world to me that you trust me to look out for them.

A massive thank you to everyone who booked me, trusted me with your horses, and kept me fueled with my absolute favourite cups of coffee along the way. Meeting so many fantastic clients makes all those motorway miles completely worth it.

🗓️ What’s Next?

Now that this massive loop is wrapped up, my bucket and sponges are ready for the next round.

*Missed out this time?* Think your horse might be harboring a secret bean collection?**
