Fleas are small, dark brown insects which can irritate your pet all year-round.
Dogs and cats get infested with fleas through contact with other animals or fleas in their environment.
They jump from a host or the surrounding environment onto your dog or cat and feed on blood 🩸
Fleas will make your pet uncomfortable and itchy. Severe flea infestations can lead to skin infections from scratching, or anaemia due to blood loss which can be fatal to puppies or immunocompromised animals.
Flea infestation can easily get into your home too 🏠
There are numerous flea treatments on the market which provide year-round prevention. It is best to ask your vet to find the safest and most effective treatment as fleas can be resistant to some products bought from the shelf.

With the RCVS guidelines in place, you might be asked to bring your pet into the surgery for a free vet check before we can dispense any flea/worm treatment.
