Great Dog (and People) Trainer

I am very happy to have discovered Sabrina. She is such a wonderful, positive reinforcement based trainer. So far, my terrier mix rescue dog and I have tried hoopers and scent work, both new skills. We are making good progress and having lots of fun. Sabrina explains and demonstrates everything clearly and provides meaningful feedback. She is kind, compassionate and so generous with her time, knowledge and resources. We are always excited to see her and the lovely Bonzo. Yes, dogs can enjoy off-lead freedom.

But there's SO much more they can get from the experience. 💜

At Beau's Pawsitive Dog Training, our secure, deer-fenced off-lead area offers opportunities for:

🚨 3 things I wish EVERY new dog owner knew!

And number 3 could change the way you approach dog training. 🐾

1️⃣ Your dog doesn't need to greet every dog they see.

Learning to walk past other dogs calmly is a valuable life skill.

Not every dog wants to say hello.

And that's perfectly OK!

2️⃣ Sniffing is NOT wasted walking time.

Your dog's nose is an incredible tool.

Giving them time to sniff, investigate and explore provides mental enrichment.

Sometimes a slow, sniff-filled walk is just what they need.

3️⃣ Don't wait until things go wrong to start training.

Want better recall?

Practise before you need it.

Want calmer walks?

Build those skills somewhere your dog can concentrate.

Want your dog to cope better with distractions?

Introduce them gradually.

That's why my approach at Beau's Pawsitive Dog Training is:

💜 Train for the situation, not in the situation.

Dog training isn't about creating a perfect dog.

It's about helping you and your dog understand each other and build useful everyday skills.

💜 The truth about challenging dog behaviour that more people need to hear...

Your dog isn't always giving you a hard time.

Sometimes they're HAVING a hard time.

Think about the dog who...

🐕 Barks when another dog appears.

🐾 Pulls towards everything on a walk.

😟 Struggles to settle somewhere new.

👀 Seems unable to listen when distracted.

It's easy to focus on stopping the behaviour.

But I want owners to ask another question:

WHY is my dog behaving this way?

Are they worried?

Overexcited?

Frustrated?

Finding the situation too difficult?

Different dogs can show similar behaviours for very different reasons.

And understanding those reasons matters.

That's why I believe in training for the situation, not in the situation.

We want to give dogs the chance to learn before expecting them to cope with something difficult.

Dog training isn't about expecting perfection.

It's about building skills, confidence and understanding, one step at a time.

🐽 STOP rushing your dog past every interesting smell!

To us, it might look like they're sniffing the same patch of grass for the hundredth time.

To them?

There's a whole world of information waiting to be discovered!

Dogs experience so much of their world through their noses.

And giving them time to sniff is a simple way to provide mental enrichment.

That's one of the things I love about our secure off-lead area at Beau's Pawsitive Dog Training. 💜

🌳 Plenty of trees.

🐾 Lots of interesting smells.

🐕 Opportunities to explore at their own pace.

Not every visit needs to involve running at full speed.

Sometimes, letting your dog wander, sniff and investigate is exactly the kind of activity they'll enjoy.

Sniffing isn't wasted time. It's part of being a dog!

🤯 Unpopular opinion: A tired dog isn't always a happy dog!

We often hear that a dog needs more exercise.

More running.

More ball throwing.

More activity.

But what if your dog doesn't need MORE excitement?

What if they need time to slow down?

🐽 Sniffing.

🌳 Exploring.

🐾 Investigating interesting smells.

💜 Enjoying their surroundings.

These activities give dogs a chance to use their noses and can help them relax.

Of course, physical exercise matters too.

But dog enrichment isn't just about how far your dog walks or how fast they run.

A slower, sniff-filled walk can be a wonderful experience for your dog.

Sometimes the best part of a walk is the bit where you hardly move!

😂 Especially when your dog discovers that ONE blade of grass that apparently contains the entire neighbourhood's news.

And that's OK!

Some dogs are still learning recall.

Some need more practice around distractions.

Others simply love having room to explore at their own pace.

🚨 The biggest mistake dog owners make with recall training?

Only calling their dog back when they REALLY need them!

Picture this...

Your dog is enjoying the best sniff of their life.

Another dog appears.

Something moves in the bushes.

And now you're calling their name over and over.

But they're not coming.

Here's what many owners don't realise:

Recall needs to be practised BEFORE you need it.

🐾 Start somewhere quiet.

🐾 Reward your dog for coming back.

🐾 Build up distractions gradually.

🐾 Sometimes reward them and let them go back to exploring.

If coming back always means the fun ends, why would they be excited to return?

Reliable recall isn't built through shouting louder.

It's built through practice, patience and helping your dog succeed.

That's why I believe in training for the situation, not in the situation.

Your dog comes back when you call at home.
They sit beautifully in the garden.
They even listen when you've got a treat in your hand.

Then you go outside...
🐕 Other dogs!
🐿️ Interesting smells!
🌳 New places to explore!

And suddenly, it's as though they've forgotten everything.

Sound familiar?
Here's the thing...
A dog who can do something at home hasn't necessarily learned to do it around distractions.

That's why my approach to dog training is simple:
