I am incredibly proud of Madge this week!
When working with reactivity, especially when there is a strong emotional response driving the behaviour, progress can often feel slow and difficult to see. However, some of the most important changes are happening internally, even when they are not immediately obvious.
For dogs like Madge, triggers can create an overwhelming emotional response that they simply cannot cope with. While avoiding triggers may seem like the easiest solution, it can often make the problem worse over time, as the dog never has the opportunity to learn how to process and manage those emotions when the trigger does appear.
Through carefully controlled exposure to her triggers, Madge is learning to regulate her emotional responses and develop better coping strategies. Instead of starting each encounter already heightened and quickly tipping over threshold, she is gradually becoming desensitised and more emotionally equipped to handle everyday life.
As we know, avoidance is rarely the answer. It can become incredibly stressful for owners who feel unable to go places or enjoy walks without worrying about a reaction. This is why building confidence, resilience, and emotional regulation is such an important part of the journey.
Madge has worked so hard this week, and her progress is something to be truly proud of.
We have still got a way to go but amazing to start seeing it all fall into place.

Lets talk dog frustration!
If you are finding this with your dog and are not sure what to do, then message me to book in a behavioral session.

This is Missy. I have been working with her for the past couple of months, and she has made tremendous progress from the emotionally reactive dog she once was. Previously, even the sight of another dog in the distance would trigger an intense emotional response and reactive behaviour.

We have worked on several aspects of her training, including controlled exposure, and while we now need to increase the level of exposure, it must continue to be done in a structured and controlled manner.

Missy has already completed a session with my two dogs in a secure dog field, where she was fantastic. By the end of the session, she was comfortably off lead and no longer required a muzzle.

With that success in mind, I invited her to join me on a casual group walk. The dogs in this pack are all well-balanced, stable, and socially secure, making them ideal role models for her continued development.

Exposure is key to Missy's progress. While she may still react occasionally, these responses are now far more impulsive than emotional, which represents significant improvement. Most importantly, these moments can be redirected and corrected, allowing her to continue building confidence and making positive associations around other dogs.

This version would work well for a social media post, client update, or training progress report.
