My Anxious Dog UK

My Anxious Dog UK Introducing an award winning range of yellow leads & harnesses for our anxious and reactive dogs. Was this another sign I should have picked up on? Thank you

Creator of the national awareness day on 20th March My experience with my own anxious dog, Bella
I have had dogs all my life and got a beautiful puppy in 2012, a Cocker Spaniel called Bella . I was so proud to take her to the vets for puppy socialisation class but she wasn't very interested, she mainly sat under my chair while a beagle pup caused havoc. She was brilliant at being tra

ined and in our puppy class we even won the award for "Best dog in class". However as we progressed in our class I noticed Bella completely fixating on me, hardly looking around the hall and if we were sat next to a dog that was playful or had no manners Bella would tell them off. "Serves you right" the owners would say "You need to be put in you place." Never once did the instructors say to me that Bella was anxious. I didn't know, I only had 2 other dogs in the past which were opposites to Bella, confident and pleased to be around everyone. However as we progressed in the levels of class Bella struggled with the "Stay" when I walked out of the room from her. Could I have done things differently if I understood my puppy's personality? We tried flyball in the summer of 2013, I saw an advert for lesson to learn the basics of flyball. It sounded fun and she was good, a great way to increase our bonding. Unfortunately Bella was attacked, a dog came flying from across the park and took Bella off her feet from the side. It sounded hurrrendous and this was the start of her becoming fearful to other dogs. I didn't know this at the time but looking back should I have done something different? Could I have helped her? From this her fear of being touched started. Looking back I think she was possibly bruised and when she was touched it was tender and sore. This was the start of her fear of people touching her. Next, Bella started growling at people
I phoned my dog trainer that I had done all my classes with when she first started growling at people, I was in tears I felt awful. She told me about using a yellow ribbon on her lead as it meant that she needed space.but I found people didn't know what this meant, so dogs still came bounding over and upsetting her. So I decided to develop and test my own range of yellow products and created a range of high quality leads and padded harnesses. I wanted a product that would suit Bella's needs and help other dog owners the understand her. When Bella wore the My Anxious Dog products, things started to change
Finally, people were starting to recognise she needed space, the KEEP AWAY on the yellow helped get the message over. I found it such a massive help and it made me feel so much calmer when out in public too. I did go through a stage of embarrassment, it felt like having a naughty child at school! But I don't think I really understood my dog. I didn't understand it was from fear. Seeing her confidence grow made me smile
In time, Bella was able to enjoy classes again
I was lucky that a few years ago I found an agility group that welcomed anxious dogs in their classes. They were small classes which were great and we always had the end chair. Our teacher was fantastic, she also had a reactive dog so we settled in well and really enjoyed it. I think Bella did too as long as she had the space. It really helped finding a group with other dog owners with anxious dogs as I didn't feel like the odd one out. I didn't feel like I was being judged. We even went on to do scent work and group walks which gave Bella confidence around the dogs she met every week. Now more people are aware of My Anxious Dog and what wearing yellow means. It takes time and effort but I have raised awareness in my area, asking for permission to put poo bin stickers on the bins in parks. By giving posters to all our local vets to display in the waiting rooms. By having several videos produced of dogs talking about why they wear yellow. All these videos, poo bin stickers, wheelie bin stickers, car stickers and posters I have designed so owners of reactive dogs can also raise awareness in their own areas too. You can’t re-enforce fear in a dog when you offer them your support. Remember time and patience are you and your dogs friend when it come to over coming or managing anxiety. There is no such thing a quick fix, in some cases managing your dogs anxiety can be a life long commitment. Thankfully, there is more awareness of anxiety in dogs now, and wearing yellow is a way of warning other owners your dog needs space. This is my journey so far with an anxious dog.

A heartfelt thank you to Chris Miller MIL Pet Photography - Windsor & Ascot based Dog Photographer for capturing such beautiful moments at our awareness walk at Cliveden National Trust.

Chris spent over four hours with us, patiently photographing so many incredible dogs and their wonderful owners. Each image tells a story of dogs being understood, of owners feeling supported, and of a community coming together with kindness.

These aren’t just photographs. They are beautiful memories of a day where dogs who need space were truly seen.

Thank you, Chris, for giving our Yellow Army something so special to hold onto. 💛

A behind the scenes for the awareness walk.
We’ve been busy putting together the goodie bags ready for the walk at Cliveden… and as always, Matt has been helping.
After his accident in 2019 Matt lost his arm, but that has never stopped him getting involved in the things that matter to us. Today that meant holding the bag handles in his mouth while we packed them!
It might not look glamorous, but this is what small businesses and big ideas often look like behind the scenes.
These bags are filled with lovely things from companies who wanted to support dogs who wear yellow and the people who walk beside them.
Seeing them all coming together makes the walk feel very real now.

With our Awareness walk Cliveden House, Buckinghamshirealmost here, I wanted to share a few final details for anyone joining us.
When you arrive, head into the main car park and look for the yellow gazebo. That’s where we’ll be based if you’d like to come and say hello before or after your walk.
I’ll be there with some wonderful members of the Yellow Army team, including trainers Niki French Pup Talk, Sarah Hawkins Barkshire Dog Training and Kaitlin Canty Reynell Encore Dogs, who all understand dogs who need space and will be happy to chat if you’d like support or advice.
We’ll also have a calm Yellow Space Zone with ACE Free Work run by Niki, Yellow borrow bags if you’d like to take part but don’t yet have yellow gear, and a limited number of goodie bags with items from Forthglade Natural Pet Food LickiMat, Furr Boost, Pet Trust UK and Pet Remedy, along with a few yellow surprises from us.
A lovely photographer will also be capturing moments from the day. On the day you’ll be able to scan a QR code to view the photographs, and we will also share the link again afterwards so everyone can access them.
It looks like we may even be lucky with the weather! Cliveden is a beautiful place to walk, so feel free to bring some lunch and take some time to relax knowing the day has been designed with space and understanding in mind for you and your dog.

Are you in the Maidenhead/Windsor area and free on March 20th?
I’m doing a walk at Cliveden the National Trust Estate in Buckinghamshire to celebrate the day and I would love for you to come and join us.
It’s all about letting people know what a dog in yellow means, and if you’d like to bring your dog along you can, because there’s loads of space and dogs are on lead so we have made the environment as safe as we can.
I’ll be there with Bella and Matt and some of my friends who are dog trainers and support our anxious dogs, and it would mean the world to have you there.
It’s from 11am - 3pm and you’ll be able to spot us as our big yellow gazebo will be in the car park.
I can’t predict the weather but if it’s nice, you can bring a picnic and spend the day there and it would be so lovely to meet you.
If this sounds good, let me know by commenting ‘me’ and I can send over all the information, and the first 25 people get a free goody bag with £50 worth of fab stuff too.

One of the things I’m really excited about for our awareness walk on 20th March is that we’ll have a photographer joining us.
They’ll be capturing you and your dog as you walk together on this special day for the Yellow Army.
For many of us, life with a dog who needs space can feel quite hidden. We manage, we advocate, and we celebrate the small wins often without anyone else really seeing the journey we’re on.
So this feels different.
On this momentous day, you’ll have the chance to have a natural photograph taken of you and your dog as part of the walk. Afterwards, you’ll be able to download your photo and keep it as a memory of the day.
A moment in time.
A walk where yellow is understood.
A photograph celebrating the bond between you and your dog.
If you’d like to walk with us and have your photo captured on this momentous day for , you can register using the link below.

There’s something really special about walking somewhere beautiful…
but when you have a dog who wears yellow, it doesn’t always feel simple.
Last week I visited Cliveden House to walk the route for our awareness day — and I filmed it so you can see it for yourself.
Wide paths.
Plenty of space.
Clear on-lead areas.
Quiet corners where you can step aside.
Benches where you can sit, breathe, and take in those incredible views over the Thames.
This won’t be a chaotic group walk.
It will be organised.
It will be spacious.
It will be supported.
There will be gentle education around why some dogs wear yellow.
There will be understanding.
And most importantly there will be other owners who just get it.
For once, this is a walk where dogs in yellow are not the “awkward ones”.
They are the reason we’re there.
If you’ve ever avoided beautiful places because it felt too overwhelming…
I hope this video gives you the confidence to come.
You deserve to enjoy these spaces too.

We’re going on a National Trust walk… and for once if you have a dog that wears yellow you’re invited!
There’s something so special about a National Trust walk.
Wide open spaces. Beautiful scenery. Fresh air.
And (usually!) a little more room to breathe.
For those of us with anxious or fearful dogs, choosing the right place to walk can make all the difference. Open landscapes and wider paths can help create that all-important distance and knowing that it’s a safe space is everything.
That’s why we’ve collaborated with National Trust to host our very first Awareness Walk on 20th March. 💛

A calmer walk can start in yellow.
This isn’t just a walk.
It’s a statement.
A moment of understanding.
A chance to show the world what yellow means.

If you’re near Cliveden House, we would love you to join us.
✔ Walk with other supportive, understanding dog owners
✔ Raise awareness of what dogs in yellow need
✔ Feel proud to advocate for your dog
✔ Be part of the Yellow Army in real life

Imagine a space where people already understand.
Where distance is respected.
Where nobody questions why your dog needs space.
That’s what we’re creating.
If you’re near Cliveden House, sign up with the link below.
Let’s make this 20th March a day of calm walks, proud advocacy and powerful awareness.
Will you be joining us?
