Wildlife Alert at Eglinton Country Park
We have received a report of possible snares being set in the north-east area of the park and surrounding countryside.
Under the Wildlife Management and Muirburn (Scotland) Act 2024, the use of snares is illegal in Scotland.
If you are venturing off the main paths, especially in the more remote areas of the park, please be alert and take extra care. Keep an eye on where you are walking and ensure young children and dogs remain close by and under close supervision, particularly in areas of long grass, rough ground or dense vegetation. If you see anything unusual or that may be a snare, do not approach, touch or attempt to move it.
Please report it to Police Scotland on 101 and, if possible, let us know at [email protected].
Useful information includes:
• What3Words location, grid reference or map pin: https://what3words.com
• Photographs of the suspected snare
Even if you are unsure, please report it. It is better to raise a concern that turns out not to be a snare than to leave it unreported.
Please do not touch, move or tamper with any suspected snare.
If you find an injured or distressed animal, please contact:
• SSPCA: 03000 999 999
• Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue: 01505 502415
Thank you for helping us protect the wildlife that calls Eglinton Country Park and the surrounding countryside home.
