"I'm really sorry, my spaniel may have bits of our recent adventure stuck in their fur"
Please, know that I never ever want you to apologise for that!!!
Some groomers may be frustrated at the extra work. But I have chosen to work solely with spaniels. Because I LOVE them. They are (in my opinion) the best dogs. So they deserve to have the best lives. And that means ADVENTURES!
If you have a spaniel, to give them true fulfilment and satisfaction, they need to fill their brains! They are working dogs (except for cavaliers and CKCs) so they have amazing little brains! They need to be able to run a million miles an hour in all directions and to run and to sniff and to dive through cover and to splash in any water that isnt bath water and to jump through long grass and sticky buds and to come back to you looking like they're going through training to become SBS with full natural camouflage and a tongue lolling out and a huge grin!
Im always happy to see all that on your dogs, because I love knowing your dogs are having the best lives!!
I did a few walks with someone and their chocolate spaniel. 15 minutes in the woods where she wasn't allowed to stray from the track, and that was deemed to be an adventurous walk for her. I was so sad for her as my boys were just getting started! I went on to learn that even though we live by the sea, most of her walks were on the streets of the housing estate. (Her owner didn't want to make the car dirty...) And thats when she got taken for a walk. Often even that wouldn't happen. She got treats instead. The poor love was very overweight, and whilst she was calm and not destructive, she definitely wasnt living the life she deserves.
If we take on a spaniel, we have a responsibility to give them the life they deserve. That means accepting some mud and some sand and some sticky buds! For me, it's a tiny price to pay for their happiness. That evidence of their adventures... I LOVE to see it!!! I mentioned the other dog because I still feel so sorry for her. I still think about her and feel sad. So I like knowing I won't be feeling sad about dogs with half the outdoors still stuck in their ears because I know they're being loved and living the best life possible. For me, you will never need to apologise for that. I will always just recognise you for the amazing owners you are!!! Keep having those amazing adventures and giving your dog the best ever life!
