🔴 These winter thrushes arrive from Scandinavia and Iceland to escape harsher winters
🌳 They're often spotted in large, noisy flocks moving through hedgerows and orchards
🍎 In harsh weather, they'll even visit gardens for fallen fruit — try leaving out some windfall apples!

With pumpkins everywhere this month, we get asked a lot: can pets actually eat pumpkin?

🐕 Dogs: plain, cooked pumpkin (no seasoning!) in small amounts can support digestion
🐱 Cats: a small spoonful of plain pumpkin can occasionally help with hairballs
🚫 Avoid pumpkin fillings, spiced pumpkin, or anything containing xylitol
🎃 Never let dogs chew on candle-lit or rotting carved pumpkins — mould can make them very unwell

As always, moderation is key, and it's best to check with your vet first if your pet has any health conditions. 🌟

Let's give a nod to a much-loved garden visitor this week: the hedgehog!

Autumn is a critical time for hedgehogs as they build up fat reserves for hibernation. A few small changes can make a big difference:

🍂 Leave a wild, undisturbed corner of the garden for shelter
🐾 A shallow dish of water and some meat-based cat food (never bread and milk!) can help
🕳️ Check compost heaps and bonfire piles before disturbing them — hedgehogs love to nest there
🌿 A small gap in garden fencing helps hedgehogs roam between gardens safely
