🌟 A morning at The Grange with Vviola 🌟

A couple of weekends ago we took Vviola to The Grange for a morning of showing. Knowing we were only going to be there for the morning, I decided to enter three classes, giving her plenty to do but with nice breaks in between.

Her first class was the Arab/Part-Bred Arab, and she wasn't too sure about the surface at first, so we didn't quite get her usual floating trot. Despite that, she still did enough to WIN her class! 🥇

We then had some time back at the box where she completely switched off, took everything in her stride and even loaded up and waited happily on the box on her own. I absolutely love how easy this filly is becoming to take out. ❤️

Next up was the Youngstock, where she finished 3rd in good company. The judge was very complimentary about her but explained that, as a big yearling with plenty of growing and maturing still to do, she just wasn't quite mature enough against the others on the day — something we can certainly forgive her for!

This time we had a shorter wait outside the ring and, although she looked a little shell-shocked by everything going on around her to begin with, she soon decided that kisses and cuddles were a perfectly acceptable distraction. 😂

Our third class was the Plaited Horse or Pony, and she was an absolute angel, taking another 1st place! 🥇

Then came the biggest test of the day…

We finished by going into one of the biggest championships I've seen in a very long time, with around 15 horses forward. Vviola wasn't bothered at all. Even with a rather naughty horse in front of her, she stood patiently waiting for her turn.

And when her turn came… she floated all the way down that long side. 😍

She really showed her quality when it mattered.

We may have missed out on the championship rosette, but to be told afterwards that she had been a strong reserve champion contender amongst such a big line-up was incredibly reassuring, especially for a yearling who still has so much maturing to do.

Two wins, a 3rd and, most importantly, another really positive experience for Vviola. 💙

🐴 Top Tip Tuesday

Consistency beats intensity.

Not every training session has to be long to be effective.

Some of Wilfred's recent sessions have only lasted around 10 minutes, but they've all had a purpose. Sometimes we're simply recapping something he already knows, reinforcing his confidence, or introducing one small new idea before finishing on a positive note.

Young horses learn best through regular, positive experiences rather than long, demanding sessions.

Remember, it's not about how long you train—it's about the quality of what you do.
Small steps, repeated consistently, build confident horses. 💙

Day 8, 9 & 10 of Wilfred's Ridden Journey 🐴

The last few days have all been a little different, with each one introducing something new for Wilfred.

Day 8 was his first visit from the dentist, and he couldn't have behaved better. Thankfully there were no wolf teeth to worry about, just a couple of small sharp edges that needed a quick rasp, so it was all very straightforward.

Day 9 was all about taking things slowly. Rather than introducing a bit, I decided to spend some quiet time in the stable leaning over him while he stayed relaxed and confident. We then took a few gentle steps with a little weight over his back, and once again he took it all completely in his stride.

Day 10 looked a little different as I was short on time, so we focused on some desensitisation with the dummy legs. The noise was a little interesting for him at first, but after giving him time to process everything he soon relaxed. I then left him in the round pen while I turned the other horses out, and it was lovely to see him completely settled, wandering around as if it was just another normal day.

It's all about building confidence, one small step at a time, and I'm really pleased with how he's progressing. 💙

✨ Spiritual Sunday ✨

This video means more to me than just another trip around the ring.

Going back to GCAT for a second year took courage, belief, and the willingness to keep showing up. Not because success is guaranteed, but because you'll never know what's possible if you don't take the chance.

With the sad passing of Dolly Parton this week, I've found myself thinking about the strength and determination she inspired in so many people. She showed the world that you don't have to let anyone else's opinion define your future. Dream big, work hard, be kind, and never stop believing in yourself.

Mirage reminded me that sometimes the biggest achievement isn't where you finish—it's having the courage to step into the ring in the first place.

Believe in yourself. Back yourself. And never let anyone tell you that you can't. 💙

I'm looking for a bit of advice from all you photographers! 📷

I'm thinking about investing in my first proper camera to help promote my business and would love to hear your recommendations.

Ideally I'm looking for something that's beginner-friendly and can:
• Take high-quality photos of horses for sale
• Capture horses in action at shows
• Record good-quality videos for social media
• Be something I can grow with as my skills improve

Would you recommend one camera that does both photos and video well, or are separate cameras better?

I'd love to hear what you're using, along with any pros, cons or lenses you'd recommend. Thanks in advance! 😊

Day 7 of Wilfred's ridden journey, and yesterday we stepped things up another level. 💙

First, we introduced canter on the long lines, and he took it completely in his stride. He has such a naturally balanced, expressive canter, and it's lovely to see him growing in confidence with every session.

We then headed out for his very first long-lining session on the roads. Once again, nothing seemed to bother him. If anything, he was almost a little too laid back—but that's something that will come as he gains more experience.

And because I'm so excited about his progress, I couldn't resist taking the next step and leaning over him for the first time. There was a little bit of desensitisation needed, but we made sure to finish on a positive note. By the end of the session he was licking and chewing, lowering his head, and standing in a much more relaxed, natural posture.

It's so important to finish with a horse feeling confident and understanding what you've asked of them, and Wilfred continues to amaze me with his attitude.

On to Day 8... I can't wait to see what he teaches us next! ✨

What a day at Chagford Show! 💙

It was just the one horse today – Pi for Aljobe Arabians.

The journey there was certainly an adventure, with diversions, accidents and plenty of rerouting adding an extra hour and a half to our travel time. Thankfully, Pi took it all in his stride and proved once again what an incredible traveller he is.

The stressful journey was soon forgotten when he went on to win his class! 🏆

One of the biggest positives from today was how much he has improved when standing outside the ring after his class. That's a huge step forward. We do still have a little homework to do on achieving that perfect stand in the ring, so over the next couple of weeks HC Show Production will be recreating busy show environments to help build his confidence even further.

We're so proud of this young horse and can't wait to see what the next show brings. 💙
