🐾 HOLLY’S COUNTRY HOUNDS IS 2 🐾

Two years ago, I took a huge leap and started my own little business doing something I truly love - working with animals! 🐶🐱

There have been some incredibly busy days, some challenging moments, lots of muddy clothes, countless walks, a LOT of dog hair… and apparently enough work that I forgot my own business birthday! 😂

But most importantly, there have been so many amazing pets and wonderful families who have trusted me with their beloved furry friends 🧡💚

I genuinely feel so lucky that I get to call this my job. I get to spend my days outside, surrounded by dogs, watching their personalities come out, building relationships with them and becoming a small part of their lives 🥹

To everyone who has supported HCH over the last two years - whether you’ve been here since day one or you’ve only recently joined us - THANK YOU 👏🏼

You have helped me build something I’m so incredibly proud of, I cannot wait to see where the next chapter takes us 🥂☺️

Tips, tricks and useful things for dog owners…

🐾 Not every dog wants to say hello! 🐾

It’s completely normal for dogs to prefer some personal space and being around lots of unfamiliar dogs can be overwhelming for some.

If your dog doesn’t want to greet another dog, that’s ok. Giving them the choice to walk past, rather than expecting a hello every time can make walks much more relaxed for everyone.

Sometimes ignoring another dog is actually a very good thing! ☺️

HCH Dog Tips 🐶💚

Tips, tricks and useful things for dog owners…

🧠 It’s not all about physical exercise!

A long walk isn’t the only way to give your dog a fulfilling day. Dogs need opportunities to use their brains too and things like sniffing, food puzzles, training games and searching for treats can provide fantastic mental stimulation.

Sometimes 10 minutes of focused enrichment can be just as valuable as adding another hour onto your walk - especially when the weather is too hot, your dog is recovering or they simply need a quieter day!

Think about giving their brain a workout as well as their legs! 🐾

HCH Dog Tips 🐶💚

Why does my dog sniff EVERYTHING?

Ever feel like your dog spends half their walk with their nose glued to the ground? 😂 sniffing is actually a really important part of how dogs explore and understand the world around them.

Their noses give them an incredible amount of information - from which dogs have been nearby to what’s changed in their environment! Allowing your dog time to sniff can also provide valuable mental stimulation and help them feel more relaxed.

So don’t worry if your walk takes a little longer because your dog wants to investigate every blade of grass! Sometimes the best part of the walk isn’t how far they’ve gone, but how much they’ve taken in 🐾

HCH Dog Tips 🐶💚

Tips, tricks and useful things for dog owners…

☀️As the weather is warming up for the millionth time this summer - here’s 5 ways to keep your dogs cool:

1. Walk at cooler times 🌅
early mornings or late evenings are usually much more comfortable. On particularly hot days, it’s absolutely ok to skip a walk altogether.

2. Plenty of fresh water available 💦
Make sure your dog has access to clean, fresh water - and take water with you when you’re out.

3. Provide shade & cool places to rest 🌿
Make sure your dog has somewhere shaded and well-ventilated to escape the sun and relax.

4. Try some cool enrichment 🧊
Frozen treats, lick mats, paddling pools and other water-based games can be a great way to keep them entertained without lots of heavy exercise.

5. Know the signs of overheating 🚨
Heavy or excessive panting, drooling, weakness, confusion, vomiting or collapse can all be signs of heatstroke. If you think your dog is overheating, seek veterinary advice immediately.
