One of the best know plants toxic to horses. Please keep an eye out for this in your fields and neighbouring hedgerows. It must be disposed of away from animals or burnt as it gets more tasty to our horses as it dries out.

The UKs longest heat wave in recent years means it’s more important than ever to support our horses with the heat. Here’s some tips from our vets…

• Provide constant access to fresh, cool water
• Offer shade in the field or bring horses in during peak heat
• Hose down with cool water after exercise
• Avoid riding during the hottest part of the day (11am - 3pm)
• Use fans and ventilation in stables
• Provide electrolytes in feed/water
• Encourage water intake with wet feeds/hay

Please keep an eye on all your pets in this heat wave! Here’s some ideas to help keep your horses cool… Remember horses on box rest are at higher risk of colic during the heat due to reduced movement and drinking. Stay cool!
