There's a kind of grief that starts before goodbye.

When you know it's coming. When you're watching them change. When you catch yourself staring at them longer than usual, trying to hold onto the version of them you're about to lose.

That's anticipatory grief. As a society, we don't talk about it enough.

You might find yourself thinking about what their last day might look like. Replaying favourite memories more often. Wondering if you're doing the right thing, even when you know you are. Grieving them while they're still in the room.

Some people call this the hardest part. Because you're holding two things at once... the presence of them right now... and the absence you can feel coming.

But it's grief. It’s valid and it matters.

If you're in this space... sitting with your pet, knowing what's coming... know that what you're feeling is love. Pure and complicated and heavy. But love.

When the time comes, remember that there is still choice in how and where you say goodbye. You can choose what feels right for them, and right for you.

“What happens to my pet after euthanasia has taken place?”

It's an important question.

For us, aftercare is not something we leave families to figure out at the hardest possible moment.

When a family contacts us, we aim to provide a seamless service from home euthanasia through to dignified collection and cremation, whether that is private cremation with ashes returned or companion cremation.

Delivering that properly depends on something many people never fully appreciate.

It depends on our crematoria partners.

Across the UK, many pet crematoria are small, family-run businesses, often built by people who felt there had to be a more compassionate way.

It is demanding work.

Many offer 24/7, 365 days a year care, meaning phones are left on overnight, families can call in distress at any hour, holidays are difficult, and social plans often come second.

And still, again and again, they turn up with care, dignity and compassion.

So when we work with a crematorium partner, one of the most important things we can do for them is respect their time.

For us, that means practical things to support our cremation partners:

✅We respond quickly - When a crematorium contacts us with a family needing same-day support, we aim to secure a vet within 20 minutes of the call during our normal operating hours. For future appointments, we move quickly to confirm the right time and make sure everyone is clear on the plan.

✅We fully triage the appointment - We do the work upfront so the family, vet and crematorium all have the information they need.

✅We provide clear appointment details - Time, address, access notes, parking, family preferences and anything else that helps the visit run smoothly.

✅We keep everyone updated - If a vet is delayed, the family knows. The crematorium knows. Nobody is left guessing.

✅We notify partners when the vet has left - That small detail matters. It means the crematorium can collect discreetly and promptly, rather than sitting nearby, unsure whether the appointment is still ongoing.

✅We focus on becoming their partner of choice - At first, we thought exclusive relationships were the goal. What we have learned is that trust is far more powerful. If we communicate well, find vets quickly, treat families beautifully and respect our cremation partners’ time, we become the people they want to call.

That is the standard we are building.

To every crematorium already working with us, thank you.

You do emotionally demanding work, often without the recognition you deserve. We see the care you give, and we are grateful to stand alongside you.

And to any pet crematorium in the UK looking for a trusted home euthanasia partner who will communicate clearly, act quickly and respect the work you do, we would love to start a conversation.

Because families deserve joined-up care.

Pets deserve dignity.

And the people delivering that care deserve to have their time respected.

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words, Karen.

Poppy sounds like an incredible little character, proof that three legs and a strong spirit can still lead to a wonderfully adventurous life.

We know how heartbreaking the decision to say goodbye is, and we’re truly honoured that we could help make Poppy’s passing calm, gentle and just as you wished for her. It’s especially important to us that, even in such painful moments, families feel supported, listened to and cared for from that very first contact.

Sending both you and Eddie our sincerest condolences and warmest wishes. 🤍

Your dog has their spot on the couch. Your cat has their unique corner under the stairs. They know their home. They know what comfort feels like.

When it's time to say goodbye, they deserve to be exactly where they're happiest… surrounded by the people and places they love. Home is where they're most themselves. It can be where they're most at peace too.

At home end-of-life care means your pet stays in their safe space, and you get to be there every moment, on your own terms.

We're here to make that peaceful. No rush. No waiting rooms. Just time together.

Your pet loved you completely. Without condition. Without question.

You loved them back with everything you had. You showed up for them. You made choices for them. You held them through their hardest moments.

That love was real. The bond you shared was real. And the way you're grieving them now... that's proof of how much you gave.

You did right by them. All the way through. 🤍
