This is Tamsin’s story, and she didn’t expect to use the words “beautiful” and “peaceful” to describe losing her cat. But that’s exactly what happened.

Her cat, handsome and hilarious right to the end, was cared for by Valeria, one of our vets. The appointment was arranged quickly, and when Valeria arrived, she was gentle and supportive from the start. She talked Tamsin through the whole process, and nothing was rushed.

Tamsin was able to hold and cuddle her cat until he passed away in her arms. For him, it was just a normal day. She didn’t even need to move until she was ready, and Dr Valeria left quietly once she was sure everyone was okay.

“We were moved there and then to send a message of thanks,” Tamsin told us. “For the first time ever, we were left with sadness, but none of the trauma of vet visits and waiting rooms and appointment times.”

Tamsin said the decision itself was the hardest part. But the kind and gentle process made the loss of her boy as okay as it could possibly be.

This is what we mean when it’s at the heart of what we do: keeping pets relaxed and surrounded by the people they love, in the comfort of their own home.

Guilt can be one of the hardest parts of saying goodbye to a much-loved pet.

The what ifs. The wondering whether it was too soon, or whether you could have done something differently. Replaying the decision, even when you know it was made with love and with their comfort at its heart.

If you’re carrying those feelings, you’re not alone.

Guilt doesn’t necessarily mean you made the wrong decision. Sometimes, it’s simply a reflection of how deeply you cared.

Be gentle with yourself. Grief doesn’t follow a timeline, and neither does learning to live with the decisions that came with saying goodbye. 🤍

This is Jennifer’s story about the day she said goodbye to her beloved dog Daisy, on the 1st of September 2026.

Dr David came to their home. Jennifer described him as the most caring, understanding vet she’s ever met. He explained everything as he helped Daisy pass so peacefully.

“I will be looking to him and this company when it is time to say goodbye to my other dog,” Jennifer told us. “Can’t recommend this company enough. A truly caring and compassionate company. Staff so helpful and understanding.”

After saying goodbye to your pet, it’s incredibly common to keep revisiting that decision... to find yourself questioning it, over and over. That’s not you doing anything wrong, it’s simply part of grief.

So many pet parents wonder if they acted a little too soon, or a little too late. It’s rare to hear anyone say they got it absolutely perfect, because there is no perfect moment, only the one you were in.

You did your best, and that’s all any of us can do. You made that decision in love. Revisiting it, questioning it, is a completely normal part of grief.

Is your cat quietly living with arthritis?

Cats almost never limp when it comes to arthritis. Instead they just... adapt. Stopping the jump onto the windowsill. Taking the stairs a bit more carefully. A coat that's not quite as groomed as it used to be.

It's thought to affect most cats over twelve, yet it's one of the most under-diagnosed conditions out there... simply because they hide it so well.

Arthritis can't be cured, but with the right care most cats manage really well. If any of this sounds familiar, it's always worth flagging to your vet.

Some phone calls are harder to make than others.

On Veterinary Receptionist Appreciation Day, we want to recognise the people who are often the very first voice a family hears when they’re facing one of the hardest decisions they’ll ever make for their pet.

The people who listen when someone isn’t quite sure how to get the words out.

Who make space for tears.

Who answer difficult questions with patience and kindness.

Who understand that behind every call is a family who loves their pet and is trying to work out what comes next.

Veterinary receptionists are such an important part of the care families receive - often long before they meet the vet.

So today, we’re saying a very big thank you to veterinary receptionists everywhere, and especially to our own wonderful team.

The kindness at the other end of the phone matters more than you might ever know.
