Radiographs (X-rays) 🩻🐾

Did you know veterinary nurses play a huge role in taking your pet’s X-rays? From gently positioning patients to monitoring anaesthetics and keeping everyone safe, it’s all about teamwork behind the scenes!

While one nurse helps capture clear diagnostic images, another carefully monitors your pet’s comfort and vital signs throughout the procedure. Their skills, attention to detail, and patient care help vets get the information they need to diagnose and treat our furry friends. 💙

General Anaesthesia; how our nurse team are involved;

From the moment a pet is admitted, the veterinary nurse prepares everything needed for a smooth anaesthetic, carefully calculating drug doses under the instruction of the veterinary surgeon, setting up equipment, and ensuring the patient is ready.
Once under anaesthesia, the nurse’s focus is entirely on close, continuous monitoring. Using multi-parameter equipment, they keep track of heart rate, breathing, oxygen levels, blood pressure, and temperature alongside hands-on checks and observations.

Understanding what these parameters mean is key. Veterinary nurses are trained to recognise even subtle changes and respond quickly, adjusting anaesthetic levels where appropriate and immediately communicating any concerns to the vet. This constant flow of information allows the veterinary surgeon to make informed decisions during the procedure.

Throughout it all, the nurse is the patient’s advocate, ensuring they remain stable, comfortable, and well-supported. This level of care and attention is essential to a successful procedure and smooth recovery, highlighting just how critical the veterinary nurse’s role is in every anaesthetic we perform.

This month, we’re celebrating the incredible work of our veterinary nurses and highlighting the many ways they help keep your pets happy and healthy! 🩺🐾

Reggie recovering from his dental procedure wrapped up in his blanket from home ❤️

Dental care is such an important part of our patients’ overall health. Dental disease doesn’t just affect the mouth — it can cause pain, difficulty eating, bad breath, and in some cases can even impact major organs if left untreated. Regular dental checks and treatment help keep our pets comfortable, healthy, and happy.

We always want our patients to feel as safe and settled as possible during their stay with us, which is why owners are welcome to bring in comforts from home such as blankets or toys. Familiar smells can make a huge difference in helping patients relax and recover after procedures. Reggie definitely looked cosy tucked into his favourite blanket while waking up from his anaesthetic 🐾

Veterinary nurses play a huge role when it comes to our in-house laboratory, from gently taking blood samples and running the tests, to making sure results are ready for the vet to review. 🐾

Working together as a team means we can assess things like blood cells, organ function, and overall health, often within minutes!
