Dear Client,

With the ever-changing political situation surrounding Brexit, we wanted to make you aware of the implications for travelling abroad with your pet in the event of a no-deal exit from the European Union.

If the above happens, your pet will need to meet the following requirements in order to travel to EU member countries:

1. They have a microchip which has been checked by a vet.

2. They have had at least one Rabies vaccination.

3. They have a blood test to show that they have sufficient antibodies to rabies. This must have been performed on or after 30 days after the rabies vaccination, but as soon as practical after 30 days to give the best chance of passing the test. They can travel 3 months after a successful test.

4. They need to be seen by an Official Veterinarian within the 10 days prior to travel (not any sooner) when they will receive a health certificate authorising travel. Please ensure your practice has an available Official Veterinarian when you book your appointment.

If your pet is already microchipped and has received their vaccination for rabies previously, they will still need a blood test and possibly an additional vaccination. Please discuss this with your vet. Regular booster revaccination is required according to the manufacturers recommendation and your needs. Please discuss this with your vet.

If you require any further information or would like to discuss planned travel with your pet, please contact your practice. Alternatively further information can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/pet-travel-to-europe-after-brexit

Kind regards
