🐾 Get to Know the Person Behind While You're Away! 🤍

I thought it was about time you got to know a little more about the person behind While You're Away! 👋🏼🐶

Hi, I'm Amber! Here's a little bit about me...
🐶 I've never actually had my own dog! 😂

Growing up, my mum always promised me that when I moved out, I could get my own dog... so I'm definitely holding her to that promise! 😂

I'm already planning the day we can go to a rescue centre together and find the perfect one. 🥹🐾

Although I've never had my own dog, I've always been surrounded by them. Pretty much everyone in my family has a dog, and that's actually where I first started pet sitting.

Not having a dog of my own is actually part of what pushed me into starting While You're Away. I wanted a way to have animals in my life, spend time with them and gain experience caring for all their different personalities. 🤍

And I don't only look after dogs!

🐱 Cats
🐰 Rabbits
🐢 Reptiles
🐠 Fish
🐹 Small animals..and pretty much anything else!

Okay... maybe not tarantulas. 🕷️😂 I'm sorry, but that's where I draw the line!

I actually have two pet tortoises of my own 🐢🐢 and growing up my mum would always let me have fish too. So my love for animals definitely didn't start with dogs!

📚 I'm currently studying Canine Care & Welfare, so I'm constantly learning more about behaviour, body language, enrichment and how to give animals the best possible care.

But there's more to me than just animals...

🎶 I LOVE music and dancing – if there's music on, there's a good chance I'm dancing!

👯‍♀️ I love spending time with my friends – I'm definitely a social person and love a good day/night out.

🏕️ Summer = camping – give me a tent, some good weather and good company and I'm happy!

🎬 Winter = cinema – there's something about a cosy cinema trip when it's freezing outside that I love.

💆🏼‍♀️ I'm a big believer in taking time for yourself – I try to have a massage and facial every month because I think looking after yourself is just as important as looking after everyone else.

📖 I'm trying to get back into reading – although finding the time to actually pick up the book is another story! 😂

✈️ I LOVE going on holiday – exploring new places and having something to look forward to is definitely one of my favourite things.

🎂 My birthday is my favourite time of year!
So... sorry in advance if you struggle to book in with me in November. 😂🎉 I like to make the most of my birthday month!

🌳 And my ultimate dream in life?
To have my own farm. 🥹
Lots of land, lots of animals, probably five dogs... and absolutely no idea what a clean pair of shoes looks like. 😂

🐕 Yes, I still want FIVE dogs.
Whether future me agrees with current me on that decision is yet to be seen! 😂

I started While You're Away less than a year ago, and I honestly couldn't have imagined how much I'd love it or how much support I'd receive.

My long-term dream is to build a life where animals are a huge part of what I do every day, and While You're Away is the beginning of that journey. 🤍

So if you've ever wondered why I get way too excited when someone tells me about their pets... now you know! 😂🐾

🐾 Tye 🐾

I had the absolute pleasure of looking after Tye again for the third time, and honestly, he really is the best boy! 🥹💛

Every time I see Tye, he reminds me exactly why I love what I do. He is such an intelligent dog — it genuinely feels like he understands everything you say! His personality shines through, and he is so loving and full of character.

Tye absolutely loves his cuddles and, of course, his beloved teddies 🧸🐶. Whether he's playing with them or settling down for some cosy time, they are definitely his favourite companions.

It's always such a privilege when owners trust me to come back and care for their pets, and I'm so grateful to get to spend more time with this gorgeous boy.

🐾 Lilo, Stitch & Vouge 🐾

What an amazing week I had looking after these three gorgeous dogs! ❤️

Lilo and Stitch, the adorable Poodles x Yorkshire Terriers, and Vouge, the lovely Poodle, were an absolute pleasure to care for from start to finish.

Each of them had their own unique personality, which made every day so much fun. Whether it was playtime, cuddles, or simply enjoying each other's company, they kept me smiling all week.

It's such a privilege to be trusted with people's pets while they're away, and spending the week with these three reminded me exactly why I love what I do. 🐶💕

🐾 Luna 🐾

I recently had the pleasure of spending time with the lovely Luna, and what a little sweetheart she is! 💕
As a puppy, Luna is full of happiness, curiosity, and endless excitement. She absolutely loves people and greets everyone with a wagging tail and lots of enthusiasm.

Her favourite thing? Belly tickles! 🥹 She couldn't get enough of them and happily rolled over whenever she had the chance. It was impossible not to fall in love with her cheerful personality.

Watching puppies grow and build their confidence is such a rewarding part of pet sitting, and Luna was an absolute joy to care for.

🐾 George 🐾

A lovely rebooking with the gorgeous George! 💛
George is such a playful little Maltipoo and never says no to a game of fetch. His favourite thing in the world has to be his ball, and we spent plenty of time playing together!

One of the sweetest things about George is how protective he is. Even when he was drifting off to sleep, he still had one eye on me, making sure he knew exactly where I was. It was so lovely to see how caring and loyal he is.

He's genuinely such a beautiful little dog with the sweetest personality, and it's always a pleasure spending time with him. I'm already looking forward to seeing him again!

🐾 Snoop & Reg 🐾

I had the pleasure of spending 8 hours with these two gorgeous boys during a drop-in visit, and what a lovely day it was! ❤️

Snoop, the Tibetan Terrier, definitely doesn't understand the meaning of personal space... and I absolutely loved it! 🥹 He spent so much of the day resting his head on my chest for cuddles, and it was honestly the sweetest thing ever.

Reg, the handsome Cocker Spaniel, was a pleasure to look after too. Between playtime, cuddles, toilet breaks, and making sure they were both happy and comfortable, we had a brilliant day together.
Every dog has their own little personality, and it's moments like these that remind me why I love what I do. 🐶💕

🐾 Meet Bailey! 🐾

I had the pleasure of taking the lovely Bailey, a beautiful Golden Retriever, out for a walk today. 💛

She was an absolute dream to walk! Bailey has such a gentle nature and was fantastic around other dogs, calmly stopping and waiting before carrying on with our walk. She was so well-mannered and a joy to spend time with.

There's nothing better than getting to know each dog's unique personality, and Bailey certainly put a smile on my face today. 🐶

☀️🐾 Hot Weather Reminder for Dog Owners 🐾☀️

With temperatures rising, it's important to keep our furry friends safe and comfortable.

Here are a few tips to help protect your dogs during the warmer weather:
💧 Always provide access to fresh, cool water.
🌳 Walk during the cooler parts of the day – early morning or late evening.
🔥 Check pavements before walking. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
🏠 Make sure your dog has access to shade and a cool place to rest.
🚗 Never leave your dog in a parked car, even for a few minutes.
🥵 Watch for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse.

Some dogs are more vulnerable to heat, including puppies, older dogs, overweight dogs, and flat-faced breeds such as Pugs, Bulldogs, and French Bulldogs.
If you're away at work during the warmer months and worried about your dog, drop-in visits can help ensure they have fresh water, a comfort break, and some company during the day.
