We are just one week from opening our Newquay practice; today resin floor seals were going in throughout so some of our launch team gathered away from the clinic to run through our organisation, our Beaconeers Pet Healthcare plan (fantastic details to follow) and our opening Welcome Offers. We are very, very excited to be bringing our Community the highest standard of care in our Independent, Locally-Owned Veterinary Practices.
We talked about how we can communicate this and we've concluded the very best way is to welcome you, our clients into the practice. So throughout September and October we'll be offerring free vet and nurse consultations and check ups, to come and meet our team, followed by a full tour of our beautiful facilities.

We'll start seeing you next Monday!

Our evolution 🥰

Beacon VetCare director and Referral Surgeon Colin Whiting is pictured with Jack Russell Terriers Rose and Alf whilst giving a small clue where the inspiration for our Claret and Blue Beacon VetCare logo colours came from!
Colin is a Royal College Recognised Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery, having passed CertSAS in 2003 after working at Liverpool University Small Animal Hospital as Surgical resident. Moving to Cornwall in 2007 he launched the first surgical referral service in the county and will be known to many pet owners of Cornwall and Devon having been the safe pair of hands to guide their pets through a wide variety of Orthopaedic, Soft-tissue and Spinal surgical procedures.
He is especially passionate about a team approach to surgery; the training and support of our newer generations within the vet profession; and effective, compassionate client communication. Clinical interests are broad, including fracture repair, spinal disc surgery, ear, nose and throat procedures, and Cranial Cruciate Ligament surgery, where he was one of the earliest adopters of the TPLO procedure over 20 years ago and has experience of over 2,000 procedures. He regularly writes and presents talks on a wide range of surgical and mentoring topics, locally and nationally- most recently on Gastrointestinal surgery for colleagues of the Cornwall Veterinary Association.
After experience designing a number of veterinary practices including expansion with CT scanning, he is responsible for the overall concept and layout of our veterinary practices currently being constructed at Summercourt and Newquay.
Colin will be heading up our Surgical Referral service at Beacon, as well as being involved in all areas of our Community, Referral and Emergency practice.
The community service ethos and happy, supportive staff environment of Beacon are absolutely key for Colin, and he is keenly looking forward to welcoming Colleagues and Clients alike to our new practices.
For now though... that smile hasn't left his face since West Ham won the cup last night!

Busy day for the VetCW Surgical Team today as Lizzy, Jade, Rachel, Kathy and Colin visited our colleagues at Vets4Pets St Austell , seeing seven patients for consultations and performing seven knee operations (six for cruciate ligament rupture and one for slipping kneecaps) in four patients.
Importantly, four of those cruciate ligament cases had been detected early, at partial tear stage, giving those dogs the very best chance of a great outcome with early intervention TPLO surgery.

Most followers of this page will know our nurse Jade Pascoe RVN very well; whether as a clinical colleague, a friendly face on admit of your pet, always ready with advice and support.
Jade's was away from the team for a while, having some tough medical treatment, and has returned recently, to our very great delight.
This Saturday, with utterly characteristic minimal fuss and commitment, she is participating in a sponsored walk - 21kilometres from Carbis Bay to Portreath - in aid of Young Lives Versus Cancer.
We'd really love it if you were able to follow the link and join us in offering our support along the way.

Privilege to meet Speedo Mick today and cheer him on his way, just outside Penzance before reaching Lands End tomorrow, with the recent news that his fundraising has passed a Million pounds!
We were returning from meeting the lovely Minnow, down here on holiday, who had taken a tumble and needed her elbow putting back together.
Diagram was drawn prior to surgery as a bit of CPD, illustrating locking plate placement for this Distal Humeral Intercondylar 'Y' Fracture, one of the most challenging fracture configurations, requiring a combined bilateral approach and a surgical team of Colin, Rachel and Jade with Kathy ensuring Minnow was safe under her anaesthetic.
Happy news from post-op xrays and a nice update for Minnow's owners before we were heading back, saw Mick outside Crowlas and had to pull over to say a quick hi and very well done indeed sir.
