🚧🐑 Exciting things are happening at Dyfed Farm Vets Carmarthen! 🐄🦙

Work has officially begun on our brand-new building, and we couldn’t be more excited to see the project finally get underway.

Our new premises will provide improved facilities for our team and clients, creating a modern hub from which we can continue to deliver the high-quality farm veterinary services that our farming community deserves.

As you can see, we’ve already recruited a rather enthusiastic construction team! From sheep supervising the groundwork to alpacas checking site safety and cows overseeing operations, everyone seems keen to lend a hoof! 🦺

While the real contractors are doing the hard work, we’ll be sharing updates as the build progresses and look forward to bringing you along on the journey.

Thank you to all our clients and supporters for being part of the Dyfed Farm Vets family. We can’t wait to welcome you to our new home in the future.

🐄 Celebrating National SQP Week: Mandy 🐑

As part of National SQP Week, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Mandy ⭐, a much-valued member of the Dyfed Farm Vets team and a fully qualified Farm Animal SQP.

Mandy has been with us since 2001 🗓️—that’s over 20 years of dedication, experience and friendly support for our farming clients! She qualified as an SQP in 2018 🎓, building on her already extensive knowledge and allowing her to offer even more expert advice on animal health, medicines and parasite control.

Mandy is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to animal medicines 🐄 and plays a big part in helping farmers choose the best options for their animals. Her practical advice and clear, honest guidance mean clients can feel confident they’re making the right decisions for their livestock ✅

A familiar and welcoming face around the practice 😊, Mandy really is our “go-to” person! Her approachable nature, reliability and wealth of experience make her a trusted support for both colleagues and clients alike.

Her commitment over the years and genuine passion for farm animal care make her such an important part of our team 💚

This is fly strike.

A few flies. A few days. Hundreds of maggots.

With the recent warm and wet weather, conditions are ideal for fly strike, and sheep can deteriorate very quickly if left untreated.

🐑 Check your sheep daily for:
• Dirty or damp wool
• Irritation or nibbling at the affected area
• Sheep separating from the flock
• Lameness or discomfort
• A foul smell
• Visible maggots

Prevention is always better than cure.

We stock a wide range of fly strike prevention and treatment products, with some currently on special offer for the season.

🐑 Celebrating National SQP Week 🐄

This week we’re proud to recognise the important role that SQPs (Suitably Qualified Persons) play in supporting animal health, welfare and responsible medicine use.

At Dyfed Farm Vets Carmarthen, we’re fortunate to have Mandy, our qualified SQP, whose knowledge, dedication and advice are invaluable to our customers and their livestock.

We’re also have Ami, another qualified SQP, who is currently enjoying maternity leave with her growing family.

And a special mention goes to Sophie, who is currently training to become an SQP. We wish her every success as she continues her studies and gains experience in this important role.

Thank you to all SQPs across the UK for the work you do every day to support farmers, animal owners and the wider industry.

Helen is also one of only 18 RCVS Advanced Practitioners in Cattle Health and Production, and the only one listed in Wales!!!

🎉 Meet Ben – our newest teammate at Dyfed Farm Vets! 🐄🌱

Ben graduated from the University of Nottingham in June 2025 and it’s safe to say farm life has always been in his blood 💚 — he’s been working on farms since his teenage years and even trained with our team while studying.

After graduating, Ben headed off on an American adventure, where he explored intensive farming systems… and importantly discovered just how high you can pile corn silage! 🌽😄

Now back in the UK, he’s ready to roll up his sleeves, get stuck into life on farm, and meet all our fantastic clients across South Wales 🤝

When he’s not working, Ben’s been trying his hand at coastal fishing 🎣 — so if you’ve got any tips, he’s all ears!
