When Hubby and I started pet sitting full-time, I honestly thought we'd found a loophole.

We'd get all the love, cuddles, walks, and sloppy kisses... but we'd never have to experience the heartbreak of saying goodbye.

Turns out, love doesn't work that way. 😭

Two beautiful dogs we've had the privilege of caring for have crossed the rainbow bridge.

Gracie was a beautiful Border Collie we spent a month with during the summer of 2024 in Edmonton. She was the most non-dog dog we've ever met. She adored people, treats, carrots, pup cups, endless pats, and any excuse for a car ride.

Then there was Laddie, the sweetest doodle. We spent six weeks with him in Victoria in the fall of 2024. He was only two years old when we looked after him. He was full of playful energy and joy. He loved frozen chicken breasts, long walks, racing around the house playing chase, sleeping beside Hubby, and hopping into the car for an adventure.

Even though they weren't "our" dogs, they became part of our hearts. 🥰

We stayed in touch with both families. We visited after our sits. We watched their lives continue.

And now we're grieving their loss. 😢

Pet sitting has given us the chance to love hundreds of incredible animals. It's one of the greatest gifts of this lifestyle.

But we've learned that you don't have to own a pet to have your heart broken when they're gone. 💔

To the families who trusted us with your precious companions, thank you.

And to Gracie and Laddie... thank you for every cuddle, every walk, every tail wag, every laugh, and every memory.

You are deeply loved.

Run free. ❤️🐾

We have been overseas for almost 5 months pet and house sitting... on Saturday we fly back to Canada.

We feel so lucky to have been able to:
🐱 Love 10 cats, 7 dogs, 2 chickens and 1 parrot
🏡 Live in 8 beautiful homes in England
🏡 Live in 1 home in Portugal
🤍 Meet up with old friends
✨ Meet many new friends
📍 Visit favourite places again
📍 Visit new places that are now favourites
💼 Attend a business conference
🎭 Attend theatre performances - one so bad we left at intermission and one literally on a cliff
🏖 Walk the most beautiful beaches
🍽 Experience a traditional Portuguese Christmas meal
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Hubby got to spend 3 weeks in his hometown

And so much more…

The thing about travel is that it strips life back to what matters ✨

You carry less 🧳
You need less 🙌
You notice more 👀

You realize how little you actually need to feel rich.
🩷 Connection
💗 Kindness
🍲 Good food
🏡 Safe places to land
💻 Work you can do from anywhere
⏳ Time together

It reminds you that life doesn’t need to look a certain way to feel good.
It just needs to feel right.

This season hasn’t been perfect.
Some days were messy.
Some plans changed.
Some things didn’t work out.

And still - it worked.

Because we said yes.
Because we trusted ourselves.
Because we were willing to mess it up.

If you’ve been feeling the nudge to want more, live differently, or choose something that doesn’t fit the script - this is your sign ✨

You don’t need permission.
You don’t need it all figured out.
You just need to take the next step.

Life meets you there 💫
