Have your pets got a place in your will?

A friend and I were talking about this recently, and it's not something I'd ever really thought about until then.

If you suddenly passed away, who would look after your pets? Maybe your partner, if you have one. But what if you don't? Or what if you were travelling together and were both involved in a fatal accident? Do you have a backup plan?

It's a morbid thought, I know, but we all adore our pets so it makes sense to have a plan in place for the worst case scenario. Some people might assume their children (if they have them) would take their pets in. But if you think about it realistically, would that actually work? Would your pet fit in with their lifestyle, family or even their own pets?

Your pet's whole world would change forever without you in it, so the last thing you'd want is for them to end up somewhere unfamiliar, scared and alone while everyone tries to work out what happens next.

Choosing someone you trust to care for them, writing down their routines, quirks and even leaving some money aside for their care can make all the difference. It's not the easiest thing to think about, but having a plan in place means your pets can still be loved and cared for, even if you can't be the one to do it. There's comfort in knowing they'll still have the life you always wanted for them ๐Ÿ–ค

"My dog is racist."

Believe it or not I've heard this quite a few times. Your dog is not racist, that's very much a human concept.

Sometimes dogs can appear more cautious around black dogs because darker coats can make facial expressions a little harder to read, particularly from a distance or in low light.

The same can apply to flat faced breeds or dogs with naturally short tails or small ears. These features are all important parts of canine communication and when they're less obvious, some dogs can find it a little harder to understand what the other dog is trying to say.

Every dog is an individual, which is why I never assume two dogs will get along based on their breed or appearance alone. I always let their body language do the talking and pay close attention to this to make sure introductions are calm, positive and at a pace they're comfortable with. Giving dogs the time and space to communicate properly helps set them up for success.
