Grass seeds can easily get trapped in your pet’s paws, ears, eyes or coat. Because of their sharp shape, they can work their way under the skin and cause pain, swelling or infection.

After walks, especially through long grass, check your pet carefully:

✅ Between the toes

✅ Around the ears

✅ Under the armpits

✅ Around the eyes and nose

✅ Through longer fur

If your pet is shaking their head, insistently licking a paw, sneezing repeatedly or seems uncomfortable, get in touch with us.

Today marks Guinea Pig Appreciation Day and there is so much to love about these fascinating little creatures.

Not only are guinea pigs suitable for beginners, as well as seasoned keepers, but they are lovable, have bags of personality and are a joy to keep.

We thought today would be the perfect opportunity to cover some of the basics of guinea pig husbandry to ensure that you are providing the best possible care!

🐹 Regular health checks: It’s important to monitor their eating and pooping daily, along with their energy levels. We recommend a vet visit at least once a year for a full health check.

🐹 Enclosure: Bigger is always better when it comes to an enclosure, and we recommend that guineas have access to both an indoor and secure outdoor section. Vet beds, fleece or paper bedding are excellent lining materials to keep them clean and cosy.

🐹 Companionship: A single guinea pig is not a happy guinea pig. They are highly social creatures and form strong bonds with their companions. It is best to keep them in same-sex pairs or neutered mixes.

🐹 Diet: Unlimited access to hay is a must, along with fresh vegetables such as cucumber and leafy greens. Guinea pigs cannot make their own Vitamin C, so plenty of fresh veggies are vital - bell peppers are ideal.

No one wants to imagine their pet getting lost, but it can happen in seconds: a door left open, a loud noise, a loose lead or a broken fence.

For National Lost Pet Prevention Month, we’re encouraging all pet owners to take a few important steps today and check your pet’s identification.

✅ Is their microchip registered?

✅ Are your contact details correct?

✅ Does their collar tag have your current phone number?

✅ Do you have a recent photo of your pet?

These simple checks can help reunite lost pets with their families faster. 💙
