Spot the imposter… 🐟😂

Ky’s decided to become a parrotfish. The pout is convincing, but we’re struggling to find a tank big enough for him!

While he works on his new career, a little reminder from us: if you’ve enjoyed visiting Sustainable Aquatics, please leave us a review on Facebook or Google. 💚

As a family-run business, your reviews are a huge help. They help new customers find us and give them the confidence to pop in. A couple of minutes of your time really does make a difference!

Thanks for supporting our little business, and putting up with our silliness! 😂🐠

Tanks, tanks, tanks! 🐟

We’ve got tanks coming out of our ears at the minute, and some of them are looking rather tempting indeed… 👀

From rimless to framed, little beauties to absolute monsters, and internal filters to big externals, we’ve got something for pretty much every room, budget and level of fishkeeping obsession.

And right now, there are some proper bargains in store too.

💥 £180 OFF the Aqua One Aquasys 250
💥 Some cracking deals across our Aqualantis range
💥 Plus a few other bits of kit that are looking suspiciously good for the money…

So if you’ve been thinking about getting a new tank… this is your sign. 😉

Come down, have a nosey at the tanks, admire the weird and wonderful fish, fuss the dog, and ask us approximately 47 questions about everything in the shop.

We’ll happily talk fish until you regret asking. 😂

Sustainable Aquatics, Rotherham

Come and have a look. You never know what might take your fancy. 👀

🐟 "What's your favourite fish?" 🐟

Callum here 😁

So yesterday we had a post from Carl, talking about his favourite fish in the world of aquariums - The Cardinal Tetra!
I also really like Cardinal Tetras, but there is something I like even more...

The Blood Parrot Cichlid!!

Amazingly silly, colourful fish that if they were humans; would be right at home kicking gravel and drawing rude shapes on the pavement with chalk.
But in the aquarium?
They are a GOAT!

Making perfect little aquatic pets they show a keen interest in the goings on in the world around them outside the glass, often spending time watching you while you watch them.
Digging, piling sand and gumming at food with those silly half open mouths.
Colours can change too!

And, though big can be kept with more fish species than you would expect for a cichlid this size.
Just don't keep them with Guppies or anyone else delicate.
But with Mollies, Plecos, Rainbowfish other Cichlids and even Oscar's you will have a nice active display that gives back just as much as you put in!

Next time you're in store, ask a member of staff to point them out.
You never know, you may end up with a new finned friend!

This is a Milo approved post by Sustainable Aquatics!
Wishing you all a great weekend, see you swimming 🦈

🐟 “What’s your favourite fish?”

We get asked this a lot in store! I can’t answer for Callum, Kai or Lee, but for me, Carl, it has to be the classic cardinal tetra. 💙❤️

A big shoal of them looks absolutely epic. Bright, metallic, mesmerising… yet somehow so calming to watch. Basically, insert all the good descriptive words here! 😂

They sometimes get overlooked as “basic” or “common”, but never underestimate a tetra! Familiar doesn’t mean boring, especially when you see them in a setup where they can really shine.

Think groups of 12 or more, plenty of planting and compatible tankmates. An Amazon-inspired aquarium with a big shoal of cardinals? That’s my kind of tank! 😍

Here’s a video of one of my favourite aquariums ever, you’ll see why!

Next time you’re in, ask the team about their favourites. What’s yours? Tell us in the comments

🌿 We may have got a little carried away with the plant order… 😂

Our latest plant delivery has arrived at Sustainable Aquatics, and there’s LOADS of new choice! So many, in fact, that they wouldn’t all fit in our planted display tank, we’ve had to spread them around the shop! 🌱

Whether you’re planning a fresh aquascape, filling a few gaps or just can’t resist “one more plant”, pop in and explore the new arrivals. There’s plenty of colour, shape and texture to choose from, and we’re happy to help you find the right plants for your setup.

Come and help us make some room… before we order more!

🐟 Making way for some exciting new species! 🐟

We’ve been busy moving fish around the store to create space for new Rams, Angelfish, Blind Cave Fish, Pencilfish and Emperor Tetras!

Moving fish isn’t as simple as transferring them from one tank to another. Each move means carefully planning suitable tanks and tank mates, updating labels, and rewriting our blackboards with fresh facts and care information.

We’re always working behind the scenes to keep the shop fresh, interesting and informative. We never sit on our hands at Sustainable Aquatics. There’s always something new happening!

Pop in and see what’s changed! 💚

Team building and learning all in one! 🐠🌿

We’re always looking for new ideas, learning from others and finding ways to make Sustainable Aquatics even better.

Carl & Kyron recently spent a couple of days out and about, including a brilliant visit to Butterfly & Wildlife Park, as well as calling in at a few other independent aquatic and pet shops to see what they’re doing, swap ideas and get a little inspiration.

Of course, we also had to pop in and see our friends over at Dearne Valley Pet Centre! 👋🐟

It’s great to get away from our own four walls occasionally, spend some proper time together as a team and see how other businesses do things. There’s always something new to learn, and plenty of ideas to bring back to Sustainable Aquatics!

And yes… Carl & Kyron together for a few days inevitably meant plenty of messing around along the way 😂

✨ Maybe it’s Maybelline… maybe they’re just AXOLOTL-utely gorgeous. ✨

Just look at these two!

Two large Lucy Axolotls looking absolutely stunning and currently available at Sustainable Aquatics.

Big, beautiful and full of character — and yes, they know it. 💅

Because they’re worth it. 😂

Pop in and meet them before they find their new homes!
