🐾 TOP TIP: Use your car to help build your dog’s confidence! 🚗🐕
If your dog finds busy environments overwhelming, don’t always jump straight out of the car and into the action.
Instead, open the boot and just sit and chill.
Let your dog watch the world go by, take in the sights, sounds, people and dogs around them without the pressure of having to interact with any of it.
This can be a great stepping stone before heading into busier environments. 👏
Sometimes confidence building isn’t about doing more… it’s about giving your dog the time and space to observe, process and relax.
Try adding 5–10 minutes of simply watching the world before your next walk. 🐾💚

🐾 Is your dog actually settling… or are you working them to stay down?

There’s a BIG difference 👀

If you’re constantly asking for “down”, rewarding, repeating the command, rewarding again and continually engaging with your dog they might be lying down, but they’re still working.

A true settle is when your dog learns that nothing is expected of them.

Get them into position, then take the pressure off. Stop constantly interacting, rewarding and asking for behaviours. Give them the opportunity to switch off, relax and eventually chill. 💤

The goal isn’t just a dog that can lie down in a pub, café or busy environment…

👉 It’s a dog that understands how to do nothing.

And that’s a skill worth teaching. 🐕💚

Does your dog actually know the word… or do they only know it in certain situations?
Your dog might have a perfect sit, stay or recall at home but what happens when you take them somewhere busy, exciting or full of distractions? 👀🐕
If your dog suddenly seems to “forget” a command, there are usually two reasons:
1️⃣ They don’t know the command as well as you think they do. It hasn’t been trained and proofed enough in different situations.
2️⃣ The environment is too stimulating. Their excitement, stress or distractions are outweighing their ability to focus and respond.
Training isn’t just about teaching the word it’s about teaching your dog to understand and respond to it wherever you are.
So next time your dog “ignores” you, ask yourself… do they really know it here? 🧠🐾

Of course we all love our dog's thats a given, but if just loving them alone trained them then all us dog trainers would be out of a job 🫣

There's much more to getting an engaged, resilient, confident all round dog and loving it is only one aspect 🥰

How to greet a strange dog 🐕

✅ Check with the owner first
✅ Let them come to you - be patient
✅ Let them sniff you and if they decide to stay near
you then its time for a stroke
✅ Stroke under the chin rather than pn top of the
head

We all love to say hi to everyone's dogs but lets try to
be respectful if an owner says no, there are many many
reasons an owner is advocating for their dog 😉

A little snippet from our recent Lead Walking & Recall Workshop... 🐾

This is a typical spaniel. 🐶 Nose glued to the floor, no engagement with the owner and constantly pulling on the lead.

The mistake many owners make? Trying to win a strength battle. The stronger you pull, the stronger many dogs pull back. Instead, we need to ask ourselves why the dog is pulling and start creating a reason for them to want to be with us.
✔️ Build engagement.
✔️ Create a clear walking position your dog can understand and remember.
✔️ Use your voice to give clear instructions.
✔️ Reward the behaviours you want to see repeated.

In just a short space of time, this spaniel started to understand the assignment! Dog training isn't about control through force, it's about communication, motivation and building a relationship where your dog wants to work with you. 💙

These used to be huge triggers. But through consistency, clear communication, and an owner who never gave up, look at him now. 💪

This didn't happen by luck it happened through training. So proud of you, Chester. 🔥👏
