Happy International Dog Day!

Today we are celebrating all dogs. From tiny Chihuahuas to giant Great Danes!

At Snowy Veterinary Centre, we are proud to support dog welfare every day of the year- through preventative care, emergency treatment and advice on nutrition, behaviour and wellbeing.

Behind the scenes at Snowy Vets: our in-house lab

Ever wondered what happens to those blood and urine samples when your pet visits us? Our on-site laboratory is equipped with:

Microscope – for looking at blood cells, skin smears, ear swabs, and various types of bugs under high magnification

Centrifuge – spins samples to separate blood components so we can check organ function and hydration

Refractometer – measures urine concentration to assess kidney health and hydration levels

Haematology & chemistry analysers – run full blood counts and biochemical panels to check liver, kidneys, glucose, electrolytes and more

Fine needle aspirate (FNA) cytology – when we find a lump or bump, we can take a tiny sample with a fine needle and have it analysed by a specialist veterinary pathologist within hours, so we know whether it's something that needs further action.

AI-assisted interpretation – we use artificial intelligence to help interpret blood smears, skin smears, ear swabs, urinalysis, and faecal samples. This cutting-edge tech supports Chris the Vet in spotting abnormalities quickly and accurately, adding an extra layer of confidence to every diagnosis.

Having this equipment and expertise in-house means we can get answers quickly, so we can start the right treatment sooner.

Win a Doggy Gift Basket and Support South East Dog Rescue!

We are delighted to be supporting Conor Kerrigan Photography’s 2027 Save Our Rescue Pet Calendar Contest by donating a fabulous doggy gift basket as one of the weekly prizes!

Last year’s competition raised over £3,500 for South East Dog Rescue, helping them work towards their goal of buying the kennels they currently rent.

South East Dog Rescue rehabilitate and rehome hundreds of dogs. They also provide lifelong sanctuary for dogs who cannot live in a traditional home environment.

Here’s how you can get involved:

Enter your favourite photo of your dog for a small donation of £5, giving you the chance to win a professional photography session with Conor Kerrigan Photography and have your dog featured in the 2027 calendar.

Ask friends and family to vote for your dog. Each vote costs just £2 and helps raise vital funds for South East Dog Rescue.

The 13 dogs with the most votes on 3 October will feature in the calendar, with the overall top-voted dog taking pride of place on the front cover.

Snowy Veterinary Centre are an independent family-run practice that takes pride in offering a warm and personal approach grounded in compassion, kindness and trust. Their small but dedicated team are there to provide not just expert veterinary care but also comfort through every stage of your pet’s life.

They offer Pet Health Plans for cats, dogs and rabbits. Choose between the Preventative Plan and the Unlimited Plan. Their plans help you reduce and spread the cost of routine and preventative health care for your pets.

As an independent practice, they will take the time to get to know you and your pet. You’ll see familiar faces, receive honest advice and get continuity of care.

The pets that receive the highest number of new votes between 8am Saturday and 8am the following Saturday each week will win a mini-contest prize from one of the participating businesses. In the event of a tie for that week's most votes or if there are no new votes for that week, a random computerised drawing will be held for all eligible pets.

We had a fantastic time yesterday at the Troopers Dog Show!

We met so many lovely dogs and their owners, enjoyed chatting with the other stallholders and had a brilliant day spreading the word about Snowy Vets.

Colin had a wonderful time too! He came second in the speed agility test and he also taste tested the different dog foods available from 😋

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello. We hope you had as much fun as we did! 💙

Just a girl and her bestie, Colin, reporting for duty. As a family-run practice, sometimes that means juggling work, children, and pets all in one day.
