Pond equipment and plants delivered UK wide. Honest advice. Professional results. Welcome to That Pond Guy, a small, independent family run pond specialist based in Burham, Kent. We provide professional pond cleaning, pond maintenance, pond repairs and bespoke pond construction across South East England, alongside supplying pond equipment, pond plants and water gardening products to customers throughout the UK. Founded by Matt Adlington in 2021, That Pond Guy grew from a genuine passion for ponds, fish and water gardening. What started with building Matt’s own pond in 2018 has developed into a dedicated team working with homeowners, schools, estates and commercial clients. Today, we look after everything from small garden ponds and wildlife ponds to specialist koi ponds, water features and large lakes. As a small family run business, we pride ourselves on friendly, personal service, honest advice and high quality workmanship. We take the time to understand your pond, what you would like to achieve and your budget. Whether you need a seasonal clean, help with a leaking pond or a completely new pond built from scratch, we will explain the options and the work involved. POND CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Our pond cleaning services include draining the pond, holding fish in an aerated tank, removing sludge and debris, trimming plants, cleaning the pond and filtration system, and refilling with dechlorinator before returning the fish. We adapt the work to the type of pond and its inhabitants, with a different approach for wildlife ponds. We also offer regular and seasonal pond maintenance, including filter servicing, pump checks, UV bulb replacement and plant care. From an annual pond clean to ongoing maintenance visits, we can discuss a schedule to suit your pond. POND BUILDING, RENOVATIONS AND REPAIRS

We design and build garden ponds, wildlife ponds and bespoke koi ponds, including ponds with viewing windows, bottom drains and specialist filtration systems. Our pond cleaning and maintenance teams work alongside a separate pond building and construction team, allowing us to take on both routine care and larger projects. For existing ponds, we offer pond renovations, leak investigations, repairs and relining with high quality EPDM rubber liners. We also carry out pond fibreglassing, including preparation, rendering and fibreglass lining with a black gel coat finish. Rock edging, planting, streams and waterfalls can form part of a pond build or refurbishment. POND FILTERS, PUMPS AND WATER QUALITY

We supply and install pond pumps, pond filters, drum filters, UV clarifiers and aeration equipment. Whether you are replacing an old pump or planning a complete koi pond filtration upgrade, we can advise on equipment based on your pond’s size, fish stock and existing setup. We also help customers investigate green water, blanket weed, poor circulation and other water quality concerns, with advice on filtration, maintenance and pond treatments. LARGE POND AND LAKE MANAGEMENT

Alongside garden ponds, we work on large natural ponds, estate ponds and lakes. Our services include lake aeration, vegetation clearance, silt management, ongoing maintenance and specialist water quality treatments. We also supply lake equipment, including aerators, pumps, fountains and filtration systems. OUR ONLINE POND SHOP

Why is the pond still green when the UV is switched on?

It is a question we get asked, and buying a bigger unit is not always the answer. An old lamp, a dirty quartz sleeve or too much water passing through the unit can all be worth checking first.

We have put together a guide to choosing and looking after a pond UV, including how it fits with your filter, why the fish or koi rating matters, and what to check before ordering a replacement lamp. There are examples from our own filter installations as well as a look at separate inline units and larger systems.

A UV helps with suspended algae that turns the water green. It does not remove blanketweed attached to the sides, replace biological filtration or make unhealthy water safe for fish.

Choosing koi food? The protein percentage on the bag is only one thing to look at.

We would start with the fish you keep, the water temperature and a pellet size they can manage. Then read the directions for the exact recipe. A growth food, a wheatgerm food and a colour food are made for different uses, even when they come from the same brand.

Ingredients matter too. If you want to compare fishmeal, poultry or insect ingredients, look at the full recipe rather than relying on a name on the front of the bag.

An automatic feeder can help split the daily food into smaller meals. Remember to count any food you give by hand as part of that same daily amount, and watch whether the fish finish what you put in.

Our koi food guide covers those choices, seasonal feeding, pellet sizes and comparing value. It includes Matt’s own long-standing feeding routine, alongside JPD, Burtons, Evolution Aqua and the other ranges we sell. His choice is personal experience, rather than a claim that one brand is best for every pond.

Putting oxygenating plants in your pond? They do not all need planting in the same way.

Hornwort is rootless, so it does not need a basket of compost. Willow moss can attach to stone, while spiked water milfoil can root into suitable substrate. It is worth checking whether you are buying weighted bunches or a rooted pot, as they need different handling.

Depth matters, but so does the light reaching the leaves. A sunny pond can still be quite shaded underwater once lilies and other plants spread across the surface.

We have put together a guide to choosing and caring for these plants, with real photographs and practical examples for depth and quantity. It also explains thinning, winter dieback and protecting planting where fish disturb it.

One thing to remember: submerged plants produce oxygen in daylight, but a stocked fish pond still needs suitable filtration and aeration.

šŸ”Ÿ/šŸ”Ÿ customer review for Natalie and Bill at That Pond Guy

Natalie and Bill recently helped a Kent resident with a pond repair.

"My old pond liner had been leaking… Matt suggested fibreglassing as a permanent solution. Natalie and Bill were very helpful, thorough and careful… tidying up and taking care of my fish throughout the process."

From one little pond to two amazing garden features!

Our customer Fiona had the idea of turning her ā€˜swamp’ into a natural wildlife pond to welcome more insects and birds to her garden. It’s safe to say this has definitely been achieved and Fiona’s cat Bonnie is obsessed too.

Fiona says, ā€œthe guys came in and demolished my old pond then built me a wildlife pond and a fish pond. I am beyond pleased with their work. Both ponds look amazing, the fish are happy and I can now watch them while i do the washing up or while I sit on the sofa!ā€ Thank you for trusting us.

Pond lovers, how did we do with this one?
