British Shorthair silver tabby cats suit lots of different homes because they adapt without fuss. They show real affection and stay attached to the people they live with. In fact the silver tabby colour brings out extra affection compared with the rest of the breed and these cats love being handled even more. It is nice to watch them, above all when their coat shows the right pattern. They enjoy company from the whole household and from other animals in the place. Even so the breed as a whole can draw the line at being lifted or carried for long.

The roots of these cats reach back to the domestic cats kept in the days of the Roman Empire. Back then they stood out for their skill at catching prey and for their solid strength. The first British Shorthairs came from cats that lived on the streets in the UK. Those who work with the breed spent decades selecting the best animals. Their goal was to create cats that fight off illness better and enjoy longer lives.

Over time the body shape changed too. British Shorthairs now look fuller and rounder than the American type. This build can make them seem a little less quick on their feet than some other cats. When it comes to price, a silver tabby kitten from a good home often goes for between 1200 and 2500 dollars. The reason the cost sits high lies in what goes into raising them the right way. Breeders lay out money for spacious housing so the cats can move freely, for food that keeps them in top form, and for frequent visits to the vet. On top of that they arrange genetic tests on the parent cats. These tests look for markers that could lead to health trouble later. By doing the tests they stop problems from passing to the next generation. The whole process takes extra time and money, yet it means each kitten starts life with a stronger chance of staying well.

British Shorthairs stay quiet by nature. They like to show they care in calm ways rather than through lots of noise or running about. This easy going side makes them a strong choice for houses with small children around.
