Whether the grass is in the paddock, or from a feed bag, it can vary greatly. Nutrition levels differ from season to season and even from night to day.

Simple System's range of grass pellets is grown and harvested to meet very strict nutritional specifications...

❤️ Red Bag Grass Pellets are essentially like spring grazing in a bag. They are high in protein and digestible energy. This makes them an excellent choice for hard-working competition horses and racehorses, as well as for breeding stock and their offspring.

🌱 Summer grazing is also nutritious, but it is less calorie-dense than spring grass. It is lower in protein and more fibrous.

💙 Blue Bag Grass Pellets offer the equivalent of summer grazing and are ideal for horses in light or medium work, and for maintaining condition. They suit almost all horses and are a year-round best-seller.

🌱 Mature grass that has been allowed to grow to the ‘hay stage’ is typically very high in fibre, low in sugar and low in starch making it a more suitable option for those prone to being overweight.

💗 HayCare is made from mature cut Timothy grass, so is suitable for good doers. It has nutrition levels likened to good quality, high fibre hay.

🌱 While HayCare is suitable for good doers, it is also frequently fed to those needing to gain condition. In circumstances where horses struggle to chew hay (such as older horses and youngstock undergoing dental changes), HayCare is an ideal choice to support their condition, alongside their usual Simple System feed.

It will always be easier to put weight on before the weather turns, so if you can pre-empt this and get more condition on your horse whilst it is still reasonably warm, it will take much less feeding to do so.

For horses with small appetites or fussy feeders 𝗧𝗼𝗽𝗚𝗮𝗶𝗻 can be very useful. Fed at a low feeding rate, this concentrated top-up feed is very palatable and has a high inclusion of natural, functional ingredients to support condition and build topline.

Thoroughbreds, who seem to do well when grass is abundant are typically prone to seasonal weight loss and at Simple System we can offer an easy solution: 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀. These are 100% Timothy grass offering summer-like grazing in a bag, providing slow-release energy and quality protein.

For the very poor doer or harder working horse, we can offer spring-like grazing in a bag with our 𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀 which are a premium, high digestible energy grass pellet for a real condition boost. Feed soaked in 2.5 times their volume of water as a feed or alongside their hay / haylage when stabled. You can feed these feeds very generously; there is no limit to meal size as they are cereal free, low starch and digested in the hindgut exactly like grass.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽? Whilst we are still some way from winter, we've had a flurry of customers placing bulk orders in preparation for the changing season.

We are always happy to send out orders of all sizes, but if you are able to buy in bulk directly from Simple System (perhaps by sharing a delivery with others on yard) there are several benefits...

🌱 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴. We now automatically apply a 5% discount for orders over £400 in value when placed on our own website, or over the phone. For pallet deliveries of 40 bags or more, we offer a 10% discount.
🌱 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁. Fewer journeys mean fewer miles travelled overall, using less fuel and reduced carbon emissions.
🌱 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 '𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺' 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴. Being well-stocked provides peace of mind when the weather turns or during unexpected events, such as a period of box rest.

Simple System feeds have a long shelf life (call us if you'd like to check dates before ordering) and they store well in an appropriate environment. Our feeds are completely free from artificial preservatives and they need to be stored in a cool, dry environment - ideally off the floor on a pallet or inside a secure, pest-proof feed bin.

It is important to note that our feed bags feature small breathing holes, so they cannot be stored outside.

If you have any questions, or would like to order by phone, call us on 01728 604 008.

𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝘁? This is a result of seasonal hormonal changes, directly linked to metabolism. As such it can be much more demanding of the horse than we often realise.

Horses may be itchy, tetchy and even lacking in energy - all signs that they may require additional dietary support whilst they are changing coat.

Vitamin A, quality protein and omega 3 fatty acids, play an important role in maintaining healthy coat condition - and ensuring adequate supply can be particularly beneficial during coat change.

Beta-carotene is present in green forage and is the precursor to Vitamin A. Horses have no requirement for true Vitamin A in their diet as they make their own from the beta-carotene in the green food they eat, in the quantities they need. When grazing quality is reduced or poor, consider adding green forages to the diet via the feed bowl. 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗲 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝘀, 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀, 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀, 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀 and 𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀 can all be good options - which you choose will depend on the horse's individual digestible energy requirements.

𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻 is protein in which the amino acids of which it is composed, are in the right balance for the horse’s body. Good quality protein is found in forages, such as grass but the best quality protein is found in legumes such as lucerne and sainfoin. The protein in grains and pulses is generally poorer quality, lacking sufficient amounts of one or more amino acids.

𝗟𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗴𝗮 𝟯 to support the skin and coat. Simple System Instant Linseed is around 40% oil and over half of that is the important omega 3. For an average 500kg horse, 125g a day - around a mug full - of Instant Linseed can make a big difference to coat condition, shine and comfort.

For high-quality chopped forage with a light coating of cold pressed linseed oil, meet our '& Shine' range.

🩵 Build & Shine | 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲
Made from calcium rich lucerne plus linseed oil, this chop is highly recommended for horses prone to ulcers. It gives a good chew to aid saliva production and is low in sugar and starch. Suitable for the majority of horses and ideal as part of the Target Feed.

🩷 Sainfoin & Shine | 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆
Made from sainfoin and linseed oil, this chop is ideal for adding forage variety to support gut microbes. It is also popular for fussy feeders, itchy types and those with grass or lucerne / alfalfa intolerances.

💚 Perform & Shine | 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲
Made from two grass types, Timothy and cocksfoot plus linseed oil. This chop is often the first choice for fussier feeders and those with higher energy requirements. It can also be used as a partial hay replacer in situations where your hay is too low in digestible energy for a poor doer.

𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘄? If so we suggest omitting chop from the diet, instead utilising soaked forages.

❤️ HayCare is a highly popular choice, made from mature cut Timothy grass for low sugar and starch and so suitable for good doers. It has nutrition levels likened to good quality, high fibre hay. Simply soak the pellets in approximately 2.5 times their volume of water, to form a crumb or mash.
