🌾GRASS SEEDS🌾
This time of year, grass seeds become a common and potentially serious problem for dogs across the UK.
These small, dart-shaped seeds can easily get stuck to your dog including on their:
🐾 Paws
👁 Eyes
👂 Ears
👃 Nose
🦴 Armpits
🐶 Groin
Because of their pointed shape, grass seeds can burrow into the skin and travel deeper into the body, causing painful infections and sometimes requiring surgery to remove.
Signs to look out for:
• Excessive licking or chewing at paws
• Sudden head shaking or ear scratching
• Sneezing repeatedly
• Swollen, red or painful areas
• Limping
• Eye redness or discharge
You can help to prevent a problem by:
• Checking your dog thoroughly after walks
• Keeping fur around paws trimmed
• Avoiding long, dry grass where possible
If you notice any of the above signs or are concerned, please contact us promptly - early treatment may prevent more serious complications.
Stay safe and enjoy your summer walks☀️
