🐾 June is National Microchipping Month 🐾

Microchipping is one of the simplest and most effective ways to help reunite lost pets with their owners. The microchip contains a unique identification number that can be read by a scanner, allowing veterinary practices, rescue centres and local authorities to access your contact details and get in touch if your pet is found.

In the UK, all dogs must be microchipped and registered by 8 weeks of age, and in England, all pet cats (including indoor-only cats) must be microchipped and registered by 20 weeks of age. Owners can face a fine of up to £500 if their pet is not microchipped when required.

National Microchipping Month also serves as an important reminder to check that your contact details are up to date on your pet’s microchip database. If you've recently moved house or changed your phone number, now is the perfect time to make sure your information is correct.

A microchip is only as effective as the information attached to it!

If you'd like to arrange microchipping for your pet or need help checking your details, please do give us a call.

Some more love being given by Aleks and Hannah in Grenada. This is little Florence who was sadly hit by a car. She is doing very well though and healing as she should be ❤️

These teeny tiny 1 day old kits came in to see us last week with their mum, Pasty, after getting themselves into a bit of a tangle with some thread from their blanket shortly after being born.

After a full check over, and a follow-up phone call the next day, we’re happy to report that all of the babies, and mum, are doing really well!

Two members of the Priory team, nurse Hannah and vet Aleks, are currently out in Grenada volunteering with the !

From neutering and vaccinations to treating broken limbs, they’ve been helping with all aspects of animal care. We’re so proud of the incredible work they’re doing and supporting such a great cause - and it looks like they’re having a fantastic time too!

Well done, Hannah and Aleks!

Yesterday, we received an abundance of cakes from one of our lovely clients to celebrate the 15th Birthday of her lurcher, Habiba! A much appreciated surprise from the team (who doesn't love cake!).

HAPPY 15TH BIRTHDAY HABIBA!! 🎉🎂

Hello Summer! ☀️🐾

With the warmer weather finally here, it’s the perfect time to think about keeping our pets safe, happy, and cool during the heat. Here are some handy tips to help your furry friends stay comfortable this summer:

💧 Always provide plenty of fresh water. Older pets, especially cats, can be more vulnerable to dehydration. (This has been beautifully demonstrated by the lovely Maya!)

🚗 Never leave your pet alone in a car, even with the windows open. On a seemingly mild 22°C day, the temperature inside a car can soar to 47°C within an hour.

🐕 Avoid walking your dog during the hottest parts of the day. Early mornings and evenings are much safer, and on very hot days it may be best to skip walks altogether.

🧊 Frozen treats like flavoured ice cubes or frozen KONG toys are a great way to keep pets cool while also keeping them mentally stimulated.

🐹 Small pets need shade too! Rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small animals may benefit from being brought indoors during very hot weather.

🌞 Pale-coloured cats and dogs can suffer from sunburn, especially on ears, noses, and areas with thin fur. Keep them indoors between 11am–3pm where possible, or use pet-safe sun cream (without zinc oxide or PABA).

✂️ Groom long-haired pets regularly to help remove excess fur and keep them comfortable.

⚠️ Heatstroke can become fatal within minutes. Signs include excessive panting, heavy breathing, dribbling, weakness, or collapse. If you suspect heatstroke:
• Move your pet to a shaded area
• Apply cool/room temperature water (not cold)
• Encourage slow drinking
• Contact your vet immediately

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine! ☀️🐶🐱

Well, Laura didn’t give herself much of a break between hand rears this time!

Meet Mildred, Jonathan and Albert. They are all doing brilliantly so far and are enjoying their 3-hourly feeds - yes, that does include the night-time feeds too! 🖤

Laura’s hands are certainly full once again, although she does have a very nifty backpack for taking them out and about with her.
