šStyled by Sam's Seasonal Pawsš
Hello everyone,
Welcome to my first seasonal newsletter! I wanted to create a little space to share salon news, practical pet tips and some of the exciting things happening at Styled by Sam.
With muddy walks and cosy evenings arriving, this edition is all about autumn adventuresāand a little Halloween fun! š
š Samās seasonal grooming tip
After an autumn walk, check paws and coats for mud, little twigs and leavesāespecially around toes, legs, ears and tummies.
For longer coats, gently brush and comb through regularly, paying attention to areas that rub against harnesses. If you find a knot youāre struggling with, ask me for advice at your next appointment.
A little care between grooms can make a big difference!
š Halloween photos for a good cause
Join me on Sunday 18th October for a Halloween pet photography fundraiser supporting NJC Animal Refuge, with pet photography by Drew.
All pets are welcome.
Thirty-minute appointments start from 10am.
A small selection of costumes and a photo frame will be available.
Suggested donation: £5.
Costumes are optionalāyour petās comfort comes first! Cancellation list is now running and we are discussing putting together a Christmas themed event as well
š¶ A little game to try at home
The āfind itā game
On a quiet day, hide a few pieces of your dogās usual food in easy places around one room. Start with the food visible, then gradually make the hiding spots trickier as your dog gets the idea.
Let them explore at their own pace. Itās a lovely way to spend a few minutes together without needing an energetic outing.
Use part of their normal food allowance, and give each dog their own turn if you have several.
š Pumpkin & Oat Dog Treats
A little autumn baking for your four-legged friend!
Ingredients
- 100g plain cooked pumpkin, mashed and cooled
- 1 egg
- 150g oat flour, plus extra if neededāmake your own by finely blending plain porridge oats
Method
1. Preheat your oven to 180°C / 160°C fan and line a baking tray.
2. Mix the pumpkin and egg, then stir in the oat flour.
3. If the mixture is sticky, gradually add a little more oat flour until you can shape it.
4. Form small, flat biscuits about 5mm thick.
5. Bake for 20ā25 minutes, until set and lightly golden. Larger treats may need longer.
6. Allow to cool completely before offering a small piece to your dog.
Keeping them fresh: These are moist homemade treats. Refrigerate in an airtight container and use within 3 days, or freeze spare portions and thaw before feeding.
Samās tip: Break into little pieces for training rewards! Offer sparingly alongside your dogās usual balanced food. Only use ingredients your dog tolerates; check with your vet first if they follow a prescribed diet.
