WHY WAIT?

Teaching your dog to wait isn’t just about good manners it’s an important life skill! & the one word you use to train them is “WAIT”

Safety: Wait at corners and gates so you can check the coast is clear before moving on.

Road safety: Pause and check the traffic before crossing safely together.

Livestock: Waiting gives you time to get your dog on the lead well before approaching livestock, helping keep everyone calm and safe.

Impulse control: Teach your dog to pause rather than rush through open doors or sn**ch dropped food.

A little pause can make a BIG difference!

Practise your wait in easy situations first, reward your dog for staying put, and gradually build up to real-life distractions.

Save this post as a reminder to practise your dog’s wait! 🐾

A good recall is about so much more than just getting your dog to come back.

Safety first
Being able to call your dog away from a road, another dog or a questionable woodland snack can be a game changer!!

More freedom
A reliable recall means more sniffing, exploring, zoomies and adventures. The better the recall, the more freedom you can give them.

More fun & a better bond
Recall is a great way to build engagement with your dog. Turn it into a game, practise retrieving, play together and make coming back to you something they actually want to do.

Because walks should be fun for both of you

How’s your dog’s recall? 👀

🐾 Training with Meg 🐾

Another fun filled training session for the pups and this week was Jaspers time to shine ✨ this week we have been practicing retrieving, braking down the progress and discussing the benefits. Jasper showed the class exactly how it should be done and loves every second of it 😁

Next up we have Odin 😍 this adorable boy always wins everyone’s heart ❤️ his love of food is a great bonus for training 😁 this week he aced the middle position after a bit on confusion at the start which makes the victory even better 🌟

Last but certainly not least we have Piper, our own little Jack in the box 😁 but like a switch she turns her training mode on and is fantastic 💓 Piper always amazes me how quickly she picks up new skills. The past few weeks we have been practicing wrap around and she has it on point 🌟

🐾 Training with Katharine - Duncan & Olive 🐾

These little munchkins are Duncan and Olive.

Their owner reached out to us because Duncan can be quite reactive when out and about and if you are a person without a dog, Olive is instantly suspicious!

We have been working together in the park and these pups have done amazingly!
Their family have moved to a house with a footpath that runs through part of our garden so our next task is getting them to come away from any stranger who may dare to wonder through their domain!

However, they have done so well in the park that I know with a bit of effort in the home we will be able to crack this as well 💪

🐾 Training with Katharine - Sarabi 🐾

This sweet girl is Sarabi.

Sarabi is such a loving girl but she had started to guard her owner out on walks and would bark at other dogs if they got too close.

I have been working with Sarabi over the last few weeks and she has been doing so well. She is now able to disengage from other dogs and sit as they walk past.

It has also been really lovely as the other dog owners of Redditch have been so respectful and put their dogs on leads when I have said she can be reactive and is in training.

It is so important to advocate for your dog in these situations so ensure that they can have positive experiences that they can work and learn from.

Looking forward to carrying on with our training, we are on such a rewarding journey!

🐾 Training with Katharine - Koda 🐾

Last week I met Koda! Koda is only 18 months old but is fairly new to his family.
They called me in to help him learn good habits as he didn’t seem to have many boundaries.

We worked on getting his focus, managing his impulses and to not engage when he runs round like a maniac with his lead!

There is no malice in this boy, he just needs to learn that really good things happen when you check in with your owner and have all your laws on the ground!

He learned his new commands really well and I look forward to putting them into practice for our next session 🥰

🐾 Training with Meg 🐾

The puppies are all growing up so fast in size and confidence 🥹 Bella has been a superstar this week. Her family have been rewarding her calm and quiet behaviour around other dogs and it’s really paying off in this weeks session🌟

Next up we have Hugo who always gives 100% in his training. This week we were working on the middle/ centre / safety position. Hugo picked it up really quickly and was eagerly offering the behaviour 🌟

Mabel is another pup who always gives 100% she has been coming to classes for a while so we are continually working on progressing. Today we were teaching our pups toes on in middle position. Although Mable wasn’t sure she tried her best 🌟

🐾 Training with Katharine - Ricky 🐾

Last week I had my fourth session with this loveable guy, Ricky!

Ricky is only 8 months old but this pup is already rather large and so his owners wanted to work on his training as big dogs mean big responsibilities!

We have worked a lot on heel work, impulse control and manners in the house and last week they came to my secure field to work on recall.

Considering he had never been let off a lead before this boy was amazing and did us all proud! Really engaged with the work and was the perfect pupil. Great work, Ricky!
Looking forward to working some more in public areas tomorrow 🤩

🐾 Training with Meg🐾

We’ve had a late comer join our puppy class and I’m blown away with her confidence. Her family are doing a great job of teaching her and building a strong bond. Bella breezed through her first day, well done Bella 🌟

Next up we have Ozzy who’s confidence is growing each session is loose lead walking and middle are spot on and I’m looking forward to watching him achieve bigger goals 🌟

Cooper was also perfecting his loose lead walking which is a common issue with many dogs 🌟

🐾 Training with Meg - Freya 🐾

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Freya 😍 this beautiful girl was full of excitement and enthusiasm.

We worked on setting clear boundaries for Freya and what to do when she demands attention.

She’s a very intelligent girl and was picking up on the training very quickly. I’m looking forward to seeing you again for some loose lead walking 🌟
