Grass seed for this little one. Despite bathing the foot, pain killers and anti inflammatories…off to the Vets we went sharpish.

Grass seeds can travel around the body which is dangerous, so don’t wait and see, take your dog to the vets…soonest.

Dogs often lick the area, hence bald patches appear. This little boy didn’t limp, was still as wibbly as ever, and is making a great recovery. He charmed everyone at the vets too! 🤎👍🏻

We are gearing up the for season….so today we are practicing our stop whistle! Nailed it….

Of course this is training in a field….not working, with other people, dogs or birds…but it’s vital to train where there’s little or no distraction.

Every day is a school day. 👍🏻🐾

Mother and son…training…. Steadiness today…what you can’t see is a cat in the fence mooching.

But that is not their focus, training a dog to ignore distractions, for me is vital…they focus on me instead. When you walk your dog ensure they look forwards, that’s the direction you are going! Not dragging you to the side to sniff.

So a puppy dummy being the distraction today, which they both have to leave…with ‘leave it’ being the command. Well done labs 🐾👍🏻

Make the first step yours….on your walk. It’s your walk and the dog is on it. 🐾

If you had no dog on a walk you would still decide when you go, where you, when you turn, what speed and when you return.
I see too many dogs making too many decisions too much of the time… and rule the roost.

Small decisions and often made by you helps earn the trust and respect of the dog… and the relationship is a more harmonious one.

Be the leader your dog wants and needs.🐾👍🏻

Hold….hold…🎾…this little lad used to drop his retrieves….which is fine for some, but why have a dog and bark yourself ! 🤣 (or pick up the ball myself)

We worked on having fun and carrying things no pressure to bring them to me just be near me, I sat on the floor a lot and he would walk over my legs still holding a dummy or ball…I would praise him and stroke him but not near his face…as he thought his prize would be taken off him.

Sloooooowly…I moved my praise on his neck and under his chin…all the time saying hold hold hold hold…so the sound started to mean something….it became a constant sound.

I would practice his stop whistle, then sending him on his way, then starting adding the word hold with the stop whistle….when he had a ball, and recalling him in.

Finally putting all of it together….coming in, sitting and holding the ball or dummy….he sat whilst I got my phone out, and faffed around taking pics…well done little Mouse. 🤎

What happens if you accidentally drop your dog’s lead? They may stay with you, mooch or head for the hills?

They can feel you holding the lead and the tension will change if you drop it.

So the stop whistle can be used for a sit too…one long peep means stop what you are doing and plant your bum on the floor…to my dogs.

It’s a safety feature in their training and is vital in the field too. It can give you a few seconds to pick the lead up calmly and regain control.

Make training fun…. Use your environment and look what’s about. Don’t ask your dog to do something brand new….give them some knowledge prior…

I wanted these two out the way to let other people pass….they know to stay still and I could have left them on the ground… but I switched it, tested them to jump and stay…and challenged their brains.

Get out there and have fun!🐾
