💚🖤 Meet gorgeous Bella! 🖤💚

This beautiful girl came into our Guisborough branch for surgery after being diagnosed with pyometra, a serious infection of the womb that can become life-threatening if left untreated.

Pyometra can develop in unspayed female dogs, often occurring in the weeks following a season. The condition can sometimes be difficult to spot in its early stages, as the initial signs may be subtle or easily mistaken for other things. This is why knowing the symptoms and being aware of any changes in your dog’s behaviour, appetite or drinking habits can be so important. 💚🖤

Some signs to look out for include:
🐾 Drinking or urinating more than usual
🐾 Lethargy or seeming “not quite themselves”
🐾 Reduced appetite
🐾 Vomiting
🐾 A swollen or uncomfortable tummy
🐾 Vaginal discharge, although this isn't always present, particularly with a closed pyometra.

Pyometra is a veterinary emergency, and prompt treatment gives affected dogs the best chance of a successful recovery. Treatment commonly involves stabilising the patient with fluids and medication before surgically removing the infected womb.

Thankfully, Bella was in safe hands with our team. 🥰 She underwent her surgery and received lots of care and attention from our team throughout.

And we have to mention Nurse Katie, who absolutely fell in love with Bella! ❤️ She certainly wasn't the easiest patient to resist, just look at that gorgeous face! 😍

Bella is a wonderful reminder of why knowing the signs of pyometra is so important. If your female dog is unspayed and you notice anything unusual, particularly in the weeks following a season, it's always worth speaking to your vet.

Well done, beautiful Bella, we’re so pleased to have helped you on your way back to being your gorgeous self! 🐾💚🖤

If you’re ever worried about your pet, please contact your veterinary practice for advice. Every dog is different, and your vet can advise you on the most appropriate care. 🖤💚
