A four-month-old kitten presented to Mulberry House Vets with a spiral fracture of the right distal tibia.

Pre-operative radiographs were used to plan the repair carefully, as the distal fragment was very small. Dan stabilised the fracture using orthogonally placed locking plates, allowing maximal screw purchase within the distal segment while maintaining stable fixation.

This configuration also allowed preservation of the distal tibial physis, which is particularly important in a young, growing patient.

Edric has returned to Malawi with for another period of volunteering.

While he’s there, he’ll be working alongside local veterinary teams and students, sharing surgical experience and helping to build confidence in the next generation of vets.

A big thank you to everyone who helped Edric head out with equipment and supplies, your support really does make a difference and helps make trips like this possible.

And even while amputating a rabbit’s hind leg, he’s still representing ProVetSurg in his scrub top. 🐾🌍

This 18-month-old domestic shorthair was seen by Christos at St Kitts Vet Group this week following an RTA, with multiple pelvic fractures including oblique fractures of the ileum, ischium, and p***s. Christos repaired the fractures with lag screws and stablised them with neutralisation plates 💪🐾

Bennie is a beautiful 6-month-old female cat. She presented to Burgess Hill Vets4Pets following a fall from a first-floor window with a radius and ulna fracture.

Dan stabilised the fracture using a dorsally placed 1.5 dynamic locking plate from , alongside a laterally placed 1.5 locking recon plate.

All the ProVetSurg team are wishing Bennie a smooth recovery, and a quick return to full kitten confidence (white socks and whiskers included). 🤍🐾

This handsome (and extremely squishable) boy is Stanley.

Stanley was seen by Nicci at 6 weeks ago for bilateral elbow arthroscopy to manage bilateral coronoid disease.

Since then he’s really been putting the work in, physiotherapy and underwater treadmill with the rehab team, plus very diligent “homework” with his brilliantly committed mum: watching his waistline, and doing his best to walk calmly on the lead. 

We’re thrilled to report that at his check-up he was super comfortable and showing no signs of lameness. 

And as if he couldn’t be any more loveable, Stanley also has 2 little heart markings in his fur. 🖤

Things to monitor in pelvis fracture cases:
•⁠  ⁠Tail tone
•⁠  ⁠Anal tone
•⁠  ⁠Bladder function
•⁠  ⁠Ambulation

These checks matter early, and they guide next steps. Consider a contrast urethrogram in cases where there is free abdominal fluid or where bladder filling or function is not as expected to rule out urethral pathology.

Case example: 

Bluey was a 2 year old cat presenting to following a suspected road traffic accident. Although his VD pelvic radiograph looked fairly symmetrical with a non displaced ischial fracture on the right side, a closer look revealed bilateral sacroiliac luxation.

Happily all of the parameters above were normal in Bluey’s case and he underwent surgery with Edric to place bilateral iliosacral screws.

With thanks to for all of the pearls of wisdom imparted at the pelvic fracture repair course last year, practical learning that continues to shape decision-making, technique and outcomes.

✔️ A clinic hosted at your practice (ideal if you’ve got a handful of suitable patients)

Melissa brings all equipment required - including a disinfectable orthopaedic mattress. You just need a quiet consulting room/calm space.

Sessions are typically owner-present and don’t require nursing support as standard. If a patient is particularly anxious/reactive, we’ll plan the approach with you beforehand.

This video shows the diagnostic and post-operative imaging of gorgeous Roman, the 56 kg Doberman with Achilles tendonopathy, treated with a pantarsal arthrodesis using the new locking plate from .

This updated implant features:
🔩 Pre-determined screw trajectories to optimise engagement with available bone stock
🔩 Stacked locking holes and combi holes, giving the surgeon flexibility when placing both locking and cortical screws

It was a pleasure to contribute to the design of this plate as part of the Veterinary Instrumentation Advisory Board, alongside:
Tom Anderson, Gareth Arthurs, Christoph Stork, Peter Edgar, and Ronan Mullins.

📍 Pre-op imaging
• Clear enthesiophytic change at the Achilles insertion
• Thickening and bony proliferation of the calcaneus
• Contralateral tarsus included for comparison

📍 Post-op imaging
• Immediate stabilisation with locking plate construct
• 6-week follow-up shows progressive healing and maintained alignment
