🐾 Please join us in welcoming our Branch Partners! 🐾

We’re delighted to introduce Koot and Walter as the Branch Partners leading Medivet & Partners Danbury & Rayleigh.

Koot has been a Branch Partner at Danbury since 2004 and, in June, also became a Partner at our Rayleigh practice. Walter joined Medivet in 2020 and also became a Partner in June, joining Koot in leading both clinics.

Rest assured, our fantastic clinical team remains the same with Walter and Koot working alongside them to help lead and grow both practices.

As Danbury and Rayleigh continue to grow, we’re looking to welcome a Veterinary Surgeon to the team.

📩 If you’re a vet looking for your next opportunity—or know someone who is—we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch or share this post to help us find the newest member of our team.

🌾 It’s grass seed season! 🌾

With the warm weather we’ve been having, grass seeds are everywhere at the moment. They may look harmless, but they can cause some very serious problems, so it’s important to take extra precautions during and after every walk.

🐾 How to help protect your dog:
• Avoid walking through long grass where possible.
• Stick to mown paths and trails.
• Check your dog’s paws (especially between the toes) after every walk.
• Look inside and around the ears.
• Check the eyes, nose, mouth, groin, armpits and around the v***a.
• Brush long-coated dogs to remove any seeds caught in the fur.
• Consider keeping the hair between the paw pads trimmed during grass seed season.

Today alone we’ve found and removed 17 grass seeds in total from paws, a nose, groin, ears and a v***a! They really can get everywhere.

Grass seeds have a dart-like structure, meaning they only move forwards, not backwards. Once they’ve penetrated the skin, they can continue to migrate through the body, causing painful infections, abscesses and, in rare cases, they have even been found to travel into the lungs.

🚨 If your dog suddenly starts:
• Excessively licking a paw
• Shaking their head or holding an ear down
• Sneezing repeatedly or has a bloody nose
• Squinting or rubbing an eye
• Developing a painful swelling or discharge

Contact your vet as soon as possible. The sooner a grass seed is found and removed, the less likely it is to cause serious complications.

Stay safe and keep checking those furry friends! 🌾🐶

🐶 Lungworm Awareness 🐌
Dogs can pick up lungworm from slugs, snails, or even their slime trails. It can cause coughing, breathing problems, tiredness, bleeding issues, and can be very serious if left untreated.
The good news? Lungworm is preventable with the right parasite treatment.
✔️ Avoid dogs eating slugs/snails
✔️ Clean outdoor toys and water bowls
✔️ Keep up with regular parasite prevention
If your dog shows any unusual symptoms, contact your vet.
