Meet Bella, a three year old Cavachon who can see clearly again after cataract surgery.

Bella was referred to Helen Appelboam, our Advanced Practitioner in Ophthalmology, at our Storrington hospital, with a cataract in her left eye. Helen removed the cataract by phacoemulsification and placed a mini intraocular lens to restore her vision. Bella then stayed overnight with our colleagues at South Downs Emergency Vets who monitored her eye pressure and comfort through the night.

At her one week review, Bella’s eye was comfortable and visual, with a clear, centred lens and a healthy view of the back of the eye. Helen was delighted with her progress.

Her referring vet was kept updated at every stage, and Bella continues her routine care with them.

Could your dog be a lifesaver?

Our next Pet Blood Bank UK donation session is at our Chichester hospital on Sunday 25th October, and we have just 8 spaces left.

Pet Blood Bank UK works just like the human blood service, but for dogs. Every donation can help save the lives of up to four other dogs, and the blood goes to vets across the country, so it’s there whenever a dog needs it.

To donate, your dog needs to be:
Fit and healthy
Aged between 1 and 8
Over 25kg
Calm and confident with new people
Vaccinated, or have an annual titre test
Not on any medication
Never travelled outside the UK and Ireland

Every donor has a full health check with the Pet Blood Bank vet first, and plenty of treats and fuss throughout.

Negative blood is especially needed, as it can be given to any dog in an emergency. Boxers, Dobermans, Flat-Coated Retrievers, German Shepherds, Greyhounds, Lurchers and Weimaraners are more likely to have this blood type.

Ruby, a gorgeous 15 month old Great Dane came to see us at Chichester for her annual booster; and she's already signed up for something rather special! Ruby has registered to become a Pet Blood Bank UK donor, and will start donating once she turns 2 🙌

Pet Blood Bank UK is a charity that collects, processes and stores canine blood products for distribution to veterinary practices and hospitals all over the UK, helping save the lives of dogs in need of a transfusion. Every donation a dog gives can help save the lives of up to four other dogs — which makes donor dogs like Ruby genuine lifesavers.

Something a little more Jurassic in the waiting room today 🦎

Meet Buddy, an 8 year old Argentine Black and White Tegu, who popped in to see vet Claire at our Pulborough clinic for a health check.

Claire works across several of our sites and has a particular interest in exotics, so Buddy was in very capable hands. It's not every day we get a reptile on the table, but we love the variety that comes with the job!
