A few things I’ll always prioritise:

Your dog’s comfort-
I understand that life happens, and sometimes grooms will go over schedule and dogs can end up a bit matted. This is fine, but I won’t make your dog endure being brushed out- they will have to go short this time and it will grow back. I will also not clip off matted dogs regularly- if it keeps happening you need to look at your grooming schedule and lifestyle to see if it is meeting your dog’s needs.

Your dog’s behaviour-
I am happy to work with anxious and nervous dogs IF the owner is on board with what needs doing in between grooms. I cannot train your dog in a 2 hour grooming appointment, and you may need to do some training and desensitisation yourself, or get help from other dog professionals (trainer/ behaviourist) for me to be able to groom your dog safely.

Your dog’s health-
I am not a vet. However, I do see many dogs day in day out, I have my hands on them, I see and feel every inch of their bodies and I have a good understanding of what is normal. If I mention to you that I have noticed something unusual about your dog, it is only out of concern for them, and in case you aren’t aware of it. We all want our dogs to live as long and healthy lives as possible 🙂.

If you want to know more, or want to book an appointment please message me.

If you’re going to the beach/river with your dogs this bank holiday weekend, don’t forget to thoroughly rinse them and then dry fully before brushing, right down to the skin. Or book a bath and blow dry 🙂

Winnie belongs to fellow groomer Kelsey from Olive branch dog grooming but she likes me to strip her so she doesn’t fall out with her 😄. Today Kelsey wanted me to leave her a Mohawk, so I did 😁

An illustration of why you really need to dry your curly coated dogs after they’ve got wet!
The first photo is Bella straight out of the bath. I shampooed her twice and used a really powerful conditioner, but you can see her coat is really curly and looks matted in places. Imagine if she was left to air dry like this!
The second photo is after blasting her with the blaster on a medium setting for just ten minutes. You can see the hair is almost straight and the coat is opened up, making it much easier to brush. This would be preferable to just leaving it as in the first photo.
The third photo is after brushing and then finishing with a hand dryer, ready for trimming.
It really does make a massive difference to your dog’s coat if you just take ten minutes to dry them, and then carefully brush through, each time they go to the beach/ the river/ the beck, and it will likely mean their next groom will be quicker, easier and less stressful.
