🐾Guinea Pig Appreciation Day 🐾
For those who know guinea pigs well, you’ll appreciate that they are full of personality — and some even have their own special tricks!
PJ was an elderly Albion Guinea pig belonging to Rachel, and he was one of those special characters. PJ would regularly ‘beg’ for a treat by lifting his front feet and balancing upright on his back legs.
After PJ underwent dental surgery due to some rotten teeth, and following his initial recovery and final check-over from the vet, Rachel noticed that PJ was no longer showing his usual begging behaviour. This continued for nearly a year.
When McTimoney Animal Chiropractor Lucy Goodright visited Rachel to see her horse, Rachel wondered whether McTimoney treatment could help PJ too.
Lucy was happy to help. McTimoney is a very gentle form of chiropractic, and although PJ was extremely small, the technique was light and safe. Lucy identified that PJ was holding misalignment through his atlas and cervical vertebrae, along with significant tension through his lumbar spine and pelvic rotation, which she was able to remedy.
The very next day, Rachel had a lovely surprise when PJ started doing his old trick again while being given a treat.
Sadly, PJ is no longer with us, but his story remains a wonderful reminder that animals of all sizes have their own individual needs, and that gentle approaches to supporting musculoskeletal health can play an important role in their wellbeing.
Today we celebrate guinea pigs everywhere — their unique personalities, their quirks, and the joy they bring to our lives. ✨
