NOVEMBER IS ADOPT A SENIOR CAT MONTH

Many people know that Senior Cats are the cats that motivate us the most.
Although we never turn our back on any cat that needs our help we have a massive soft spot for old timers, those elderly street cats who are the most vulnerable and the most deprived. So often totally ignored, even other rescues will sometimes turn a blind eye as the medical and rehabilitation costs can be so expensive. That is why we have our exclusive “Second Chance Portsmouth Cats Lifetime Care Homes”. This enables a willing home to confidently adopt an old timer or vulnerable cat knowing we will cover any potential veterinary fee; in fact we recently posted Barney-Clive as a “Lifetime Care Cat” who is still waiting.

Please consider adopting or fostering a senior cat (or even a younger one), we are absolutely desperate for foster homes right now.

Have you adopted or been adopted by a Senior Cat, perhaps you have a cat who has become a senior citizen or you just have a never to be forgotten memory? If so and you have a photo of them please post it, you know how much we love to see every one of them.

Find Your New Furry Family Member This Halloween 🎃

If you have been thinking about adopting a cat why not come visit us on Saturday 28th October for our black cat viewing day! We love black cats and what better time to celebrate them then at Halloween! The Centre will be getting spooky and our staff will be dressing up to celebrate 👻

Although this is called the black cat viewing day all colours of cats will be available to view on the day and can be reserved subject to a virtual or in person home visit. No booking needed just turn up between 12pm and 2.30pm to meet the available cats and chat with our knowledgeable staff to find the right pet for you 😽

Autumn, my favourite time of the year, a few very important points for the weather/ temperatures in our area.
Babies are being born right now.
Hibernation… some hogs will hibernate and go down as early as October and sleep through to spring, some hogs will go into hibernation later and wake earlier. Some hogs especially this years babies and the babies being born now (Autumn juveniles) will NOT attempt hibernation at all.
We do not over winter hogs, any healthy hog will go out all year round. Cold frosts torrential rains heatwaves, we wait for them to pass so we watch the weather continuously for the perfect break.
It is really important that you continue to support feed all year round, particularly now as their natural foods of beetles caterpillars all start to become scarce.
Mix up a few different brands of kitten biscuits/cat biscuits this is all they require to help them get in tip top shape for winter.
Absolutely no need to be scooping up little hogs that are out at night, they can gain up to 100 grams per week when support fed.
Any hog out in the day is extremely poorly, the hogs we currently have in are in very poor condition and packed with internal parasites.
