I have been living here in Cwmafan, Port Talbot going on 26 years now. Me and my two children cared for Tillie with great love and affection her whole life from when she was a puppy through to the day she passed away on New Year’s Eve 2019. It is not an exaggeration to say she was the starring member of our household. She generally walked upwards of an hour a day and always off the lead because th
at is what she loved the most. Burrowing through the bushes up the Afan Valley and chasing the waves on Aberafan beach, she was a lively and noisy dog her whole life. Even near the end, we would take her out in her pram so she didn’t have to suffer at home. I am what you might call a doggy person. And always have been. And so, that makes me the best person to care for your loved ones, because you can rest easy knowing that I would care for them as if they were my own. Much of my free time is spent outdoors; cycling up to Glyncorrwg and Afan Argoed; walking along the cliffs in the Gower or the forests around Cymmer; cycling down to go swimming at Celtic Leisure on the seafront; relaxing in the garden with a glass of wine on the few sunny days that happen by. I have also been walking my friend’s dogs on occasion to help her out for a number of years now and walking a neighbour’s for just as long. Henry and Evie could possibly be called my first customers. Then in 2021, we found ourselves somewhat in new territory, caring for a rapscallion of a kitten by the name of Tommy (who coincidentally shares a name with my son!)
A dear friend passed away and left him to us to care for, knowing that we would be as loving a home as could be found. But for us, a dog family and having grown up with only dogs, a kitten became a whole new challenge. A few scratches, bites, standoffs, and horror scenes later, we now understand how to properly care for a domesticated tiger and give him the best quality of life, something all animals deserve. Now, 4 years on, we feel as at home caring for Tommy as we did looking after Tillie. An outdoor cat, he comes and goes as he pleases. Thankfully, we live a little off the road and he rarely ventures quite so far down as the car park. Probably the main reason I would never choose to move home now. The spoilt youngest addition to our family, he spends his days prowling through the bushes behind and in the adjoining park, unfortunately bullying our neighbour’s deaf cat, and basking in the sunshine. My daughter, now flown the coop, comes back once a week not to visit me but to dote on him. Our baby Tommy is now the centre of our household and he loves a snuggle and tickle as much as we’re willing. So I am a dog crazy, cat loving, animal mad carer, who will look after your loved one as if they were my own!
