Smonday is real!

When it’s still Sunday, but your brain has already clocked in for Monday…

The to-do list is growing, the alarm is looming, and suddenly you’re wishing it was Friday night again.

Meanwhile, your pet has absolutely no idea what a Monday is. Everyday is a lazy Sunday afternoon for them.

We could all learn a thing or two from our pets. No Smonday anxiety for them.

💬 Tell us in the comments: Are you feeling 😴“chilled Sunday vibes” or 😱 “Smonday panic” tonight?

🐾 MONDAY PET CARE TIP: Is your dog a healthy weight?

Did you know you can learn a lot about your dog’s body condition with three simple checks at home?

It’s not just about what the scales say!

1. FEEL THE RIBS
Gently run your fingers over your dog’s ribcage. At an ideal body condition, you should be able to feel their ribs beneath a thin layer of fat, without them feeling sharp.

2. LOOK FROM ABOVE
Look for an inward curve behind the ribs. This is your dog’s waist!

3. LOOK FROM THE SIDE
Their tummy should tuck upwards from the ribcage towards their hind legs.

PUT THE CLUES TOGETHER

For many adult dogs, a body condition score of 4–5 out of 9 is considered ideal. Breed, build, coat and muscle condition can all affect what you see and feel, so these checks are a guide rather than a diagnosis.

Remember, every pet is different. Breed, age and health all play a part, and your vet can help you understand what's right for your dog.

Did you know you may be able to weigh your dog at your local vet practice? Many vets have scales in their waiting area and welcome you to pop in and use them. Just check with your practice first, as arrangements vary.

It’s a simple way to keep an eye on your dog’s weight between check-ups.

💚 YOUR ACTION FOR TODAY

Take a moment to check your dog’s body condition. If you’re unsure, or think they may be above or below their ideal condition, ask your vet for advice before making significant changes to their food or exercise routine.

🐾 SAVE this post as a handy reminder and SHARE it with another dog owner who might find it useful!

🌳3,000 TREES AND GROWING! 🌳

We have some wonderful news to share… we've now reached a milestone of 3,000 trees planted!

When we started The Naturally Healthy Pet Shop, we wanted to make it easier for pet owners to make kinder choices for their pets and the planet. And that is still drives us.

That's why we plant 🌳 one tree for every order, and two trees when an order is over £50 — at no cost to you!

Every order helps us grow something bigger than a business. Together, we're helping to create a greener future, one order at a time and one tree at a time. 🌍💚

To everyone who has shopped with us and helped us reach this milestone, THANK YOU! 🥰

We're so proud of how far we've come, and we can't wait to see how many more trees we can plant together.

🐾 Because raising healthy pets naturally shouldn't cost the Earth.

Here's to the next 3,000!

Help us spread the word! Share this post with someone who loves pets and our planet and help us to reach our next milestone.

🐾 SATURDAY PLANS: SORTED!

Some of us have a to-do list as long as our arm this weekend. I know I do! 😝

Our dogs? Not so much…

✅ Eat breakfast
✅ Go for a walk
✅ Sniff absolutely everything
✅ Have a nap
✅ Demand snacks
✅ Have another nap
✅ Repeat until Monday

Honestly, they've got this weekend thing figured out better than we have!

What's top of your dog's weekend agenda? Extra walkies, extra treats or maximum sofa time?

🐾DOG WALKS ARE ABOUT MORE THAN JUST EXERCISE 🐾

When we think about taking our dogs for a walk, it's easy to think about how far we've gone or how much exercise they've had.

But what if we looked at the walk from our dog's point of view?

A walk is an opportunity to sniff, explore, investigate, make choices, experience new smells and sights, and simply enjoy being a dog.

Sometimes a shorter, slower walk with plenty of time to sniff can be far more enriching than rushing around trying to cover the miles.

So, how can we help our dogs get more from their walks?

We've been exploring exactly that in our latest blog post, including:

💚 Why sniffing is so important
💚 How exploring different environments can provide mental stimulation
💚 Why giving your dog some safe choices can make walks more enjoyable
💚 Simple ways to add enrichment to your walks
💚 How to recognise what your individual dog actually enjoys

Because a good dog walk isn't necessarily the one where you cover the most miles.
It's the one where your dog has had the opportunity to be a dog. 🐾

Read our latest blog:
“Dog Walks Are About More Than Exercise: How to Make Every Walk More Enriching”👉

Discover how to make dog walks more enriching with sniffing, exploration, mental stimulation and simple ideas your dog will enjoy.

🐾 NATIONAL WALK YOUR DOG WEEK 🐾

Did you know your dog's walk is about much more than simply getting their daily exercise?

Yes, walking helps keep our dogs physically active and healthy, but there's another really important part of the walk…

SNIFFING!

For dogs, their nose is an incredibly important way of experiencing and understanding the world around them.

Dogs Trust explains that sniffing is a natural behaviour and a key way dogs gather information about their environment. They recommend giving dogs plenty of time to sniff and varying your walking routes to give them new experiences and smells.

And it's not just something charities recommend…

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home creates dog-friendly sensory gardens for the dogs in its care. Their guidance suggests plants such as rosemary, basil, thyme and lemon balm, giving dogs different scents to investigate and helping provide mental stimulation and reduce boredom.

🔬 WHAT DOES THE RESEARCH SAY?

A 2025 scientific review, “The Value of Sniffing: A Scoping Review of Scent Activities for Canines”, looked at 27 studies involving shelter, working and companion dogs.

The researchers found that there is growing interest in scent-based activities, but also highlighted that more research is needed to fully understand their effects on canine welfare.

Sometimes a slow, sniffy wander is exactly what your dog needs. We call this a Sniffathon with our dog walking clients. 😂

Every dog is different, so their exercise needs will vary too.

This National Walk Your Dog Week, why not slow down a little, put the phone away and let your dog's nose lead the way?

You might be surprised at just how much information they're taking in! 🐾🍂

🌱 SUSTAINABLE SUNDAY 🌱

We talk a lot about making more sustainable choices here at The Naturally Healthy Pet Shop, but we also want to show you what happens beyond our own little corner of the world.

Through our partnership with Greenspark, the plastic recovery we support is now helping a new project in Jepara, Indonesia.

Jepara is a beautiful coastal region, but like many coastal communities, it faces challenges with plastic and waste reaching the environment.

The project is helping to build a more reliable system for collecting, sorting and responsibly processing waste within the local community. What began as one woman's mission to clean up her home village has become something truly amazing.

And we love that this isn't simply about picking up plastic and walking away.

It's about creating a system that can continue — helping prevent waste from being dumped or burned, supporting local jobs and giving difficult-to-recycle waste a responsible route.

💚 These photographs give you a little glimpse of the work taking place.

We're proud to be part of it. But how exactly do we support it?

💚 It’s through you!

When you leave us a review or sign up to our emails, these actions generate impact through our Greenspark partnership, helping us fund plastic recovery projects like this one. There is no cost to you.

So, while leaving a review or joining our email list might seem like a small thing, together these actions help us contribute to removing plastic waste from the environment.

Want to help us support more projects like this?

You can help by leaving us a review or signing up to our emails — both help us increase the positive impact we make through Greenspark. 💚

🐾 5 things my dog thinks are completely normal…

And let's be honest… we're pretty sure our dogs have a very different idea of what “normal” means!

Following us into the bathroom? Obviously.

Staring at us while we eat? Just keeping an eye on things.

Wanting to go back outside immediately after we've just come in? Of course!

Eating all their treats on the sofa? Where else would they go?

And taking up the ENTIRE bed?

Well… apparently that's just good sleeping etiquette.

Which one sounds most like your dog?

Or does your pet have another completely normal habit that we've missed? 😂

Tell us in the comments — we'd love to hear them!👇
