Welcome to Residential training

*Driftwood K9 Residential Training Course*

Give your dog the focused, professional foundation they need with our four-week residential training course.

During their stay, your dog will live and train alongside a professional dog trainer, receiving consistent daily guidance in a structured environment. The programme is designed to develop clear on-lead and off-lead obedience, helping your dog learn the skills needed for calmer, more enjoyable everyday life.

Training will focus on practical obedience including heel work, recall, sit, down and stay all proofed in real world environments. Each dog is supported through consistent communication to suit their individual needs and progress.

A residential course provides the repetition, routine, and consistency that many dogs need to establish reliable habits. We work to build focus around distractions, improve responsiveness, and strengthen the dog’s focus on the handler. Off-lead work is introduced responsibly and developed according to each dog’s ability, confidence, and safety.

At the end of the course, you will receive a handover session to help you understand the commands, structure, and handling needed to continue the progress at home. Continuing the training consistently after your dog returns is essential to maintaining their new skills.

The four-week residential training course is £2,999. Places are limited to ensure every dog receives the time and attention they deserve.

At Driftwood K9, we are committed to structuring our training programs to meet the specific needs of our clients while maintaining the highest standards of canine education. We are pleased to announce that we have integrated the Advanced Dog Ownership Initiative (ADOI) into our curriculum. As the only provider of this course in Dorset, we are offering local dog owners an exclusive opportunity to participate in a program designed to foster a deeper understanding of canine behavior and practical, real-world obedience.

The ADOI is a pioneering initiative focused on improving the quality of dog ownership across the United Kingdom. Whether you are preparing for the arrival of a new puppy, welcoming a rescue dog into your home, or seeking to refine the skills of an established partnership, our tiered training levels ensure there is a suitable starting point for every owner. Our primary objective is to facilitate an enriched life for both the dog and the handler by focusing on training outcomes that are functional and reliable outside of a controlled environment.

Our upcoming Basic Obedience course is scheduled to begin on September 20th and will span six weeks. This foundation program covers essential skills, including heel work, sit, down, stay, and recall. Following the completion of this course, we are offering a three-week ADOI "bolt-on" module for those who wish to advance their training. Upon successful completion of these nine weeks, and provided the required standard is met, participants will be eligible to apply for their formal ADOI assessment.

While the prospect of formal assessment may seem rigorous, the result is a well-rounded, confident dog and an owner equipped with the knowledge to navigate modern environments safely and effectively. As a proud member of The Guild of Dog Trainers and a certified ADOI trainer, I am dedicated to guiding you through every stage of this process.

Training is held at the Paws of Dorset facility in Blandford Forum which features convenient amenities, including toilets, ample parking, and a delightful coffee van on-site for those much-needed refreshments!

Dog attacks in Dorset have risen dramatically in recent years, increasing from around 300 reported incidents in 2020 to nearly 600 in 2025. These figures represent only the incidents that have been reported, so the true number may be even higher.

Behind every statistic is a person, a family and a dog whose lives may be affected by fear, injury, stress or uncertainty. At Driftwood K9, we are committed to helping dogs and their owners live more comfortable, confident and fulfilling lives together. We believe that people should not have to compromise the time they spend with their companions, nor should everyday life feel like something to simply manage or endure.

Our aim is to support owners in building a peaceful partnership with their dogs, based on understanding, communication and responsible handling. We are continually looking for new ways to support our clients and improve outcomes for dogs and the communities in which they live.

That is why we believe the Advanced Dog Ownership Initiative (ADOi) will play an instrumental role in promoting better dog ownership across Dorset and beyond.

In partnership with the Guild of Dog Trainers and the Cambridge Institute of Dog Behaviour and Training, ADOi provides a clear and meaningful standard for training, responsible ownership and owner welfare knowledge. By developing these areas together, the initiative aims to improve confidence in handling skills, particularly in real-world situations, while helping dogs learn how to behave safely and appropriately.

Good ownership is not about expecting perfection. It is about gaining the knowledge, skills and support needed to make thoughtful decisions, prevent problems and build a stronger relationship with your dog. When owners feel confident and dogs are better understood, everyone benefits.
