🐾 13 Days Until Opening… One promise I make to every client.

One thing I promise is that I’ll always be happy to help you care for your dog’s coat at home.

Betty makes life easy—a quick wipe after a muddy walk and she’s good to go! 😂

Then there’s Ted, my boyfriend’s Poochon… and he’s shown me just how much work a wool coat can be! Mud, twigs, knots… somehow it all ends up in his coat. Life gets busy, and I completely understand how easy it is for brushing to slip down the to-do list.

That’s why I’m always happy to show you how to brush your dog, recommend the right tools, and share little tips that make life easier.

And please don’t ever worry about being judged if your dog’s coat has become tangled or matted. My job is to help, not to judge. We’ll work together to keep your dog comfortable and make coat care more manageable.

I have a no de-matting policy because your dog’s welfare will always come before vanity. If a coat can’t be brushed through comfortably, I’ll always choose the kindest option for the dog.

We’re a team, and I want to help you keep your best friend happy, healthy and comfortable between every groom. ❤️🐾

🐾 16 Days Until Opening… Meet Betty!

This is Betty, my three-year-old Italian Greyhound and my little shadow. 🤍

Betty isn’t just my dog, she’s my world and my best friend. I honestly can’t imagine life without her — she makes me smile every single day and is always by my side through everything.

She loves long walks, visiting her office friends, curling up under a fleece blanket by the fire, and she’ll do just about anything for a treat! 🦴

She’s a little bit wild, very cuddly (but only when she decides 😂), and we often joke she’s more like a cat than a dog — so she’s earned the nickname “Cat Dog.” Though she has many nick names… Betty the bin dog. Betty Boos, Boo, Big bad Betty…. The list is endless.

You’ll be seeing plenty of Betty on this page, so I thought it was only right that she introduced herself.

🐾 17 Days Until Opening... I thought I’d tell you a little more about me!

Hi, I’m Colleen – the face behind The Barking Barber! 👋
I’m mum to two wonderful children and have around 15 years’ professional dog grooming experience. Along the way I’ve also worked in careers and employment support, and most recently – rather randomly – selling philatelic material online!

I’m happiest outdoors, whether that’s exploring somewhere new, hiking with Betty, or attempting to “garden”.

I’m also a very creative person, so between adventures you’ll usually find me with an embroidery hoop or trying yet another craft project.

Dogs have always been at the heart of my life. Even in my current job I’m lucky enough to work alongside four office dogs! And then there’s my Italian Greyhound, Betty, my little shadow... you’ll be seeing plenty of her on here. 🩷

To me, dogs are never “just dogs”. They’re family, best friends, adventure buddies, and the ones who love us unconditionally. That’s exactly how they’ll be treated at The Barking Barber.

Now... who’s ready to meet Betty tomorrow? 🐾

🐾 18 Days Until Opening Day! 🐾

18 days until I officially open The Barking Barber, and I can’t quite believe I’m finally saying that!

For those who don’t know me yet, I’m Colleen, and I have 15 years’ professional dog grooming experience doing what I love most—helping dogs look and feel their very best.

Over the years I’ve worked in independent salons, managed grooming teams, worked for high street grooming brands, and previously ran The Barking Barber in County Durham.
Like many people, life took me in a different direction for a while, but one thing never changed—my passion for dogs.

So... I’m back! 🐶✂️

I’ve groomed everything from tiny puppies having their very first groom to older dogs who need a little extra patience, care and understanding. Every dog is different, and that’s exactly how I believe they should be treated.

My aim has always been simple: to provide a calm, one-to-one grooming experience where every dog is treated as an individual, never rushed, and cared for as if they were my own.

Over the next 18 days I’ll be sharing the journey of getting everything ready—from deliveries arriving and preparing the salon to introducing you to the four-legged members of my family, who I’m sure will make plenty of appearances! 🐾
Thank you to everyone who’s liked, followed and supported me already. It honestly means so much.
