Did you know that around 30–50% of dogs and cats are overweight or obese?* 🍩

Pet obesity is on the increase in the UK, and maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of helping our pets live long, happy, healthy lives. 🐾

Things like lack of exercise, overfeeding, treats and table scraps and neutering can all contribute to weight gain over time. Being overweight can increase the risk of health problems such as chronic disease, metabolic disorders and joint problems, and can reduce your pet’s quality and length of life. 🐕🐈

You can help your pet maintain a healthy weight by:

🥦Attending regular weight clinics, where a member of our team will go through different strategies with regular review sessions
🥦Encouraging regular exercise suited to their age and ability
🥦Choosing a suitable, satiety diet
🥦Measuring their daily food allowance to help prevent overfeeding
🥦Limiting treats and table scraps and keeping treats within their daily allowance

If you're concerned about your pet's weight, please speak to our team. We're always happy to offer advice and help you find a healthy weight plan that's right for your pet. 💙

Today is World Mental Health Day ✨

The veterinary industry is extremely rewarding, but it can also be emotionally demanding, full of highs and lows and everything in between 💙

So while we spend our days looking after your pets, here are a few things we do to look after ourselves and each other... 💕

Birthday adventures for Scruff 🎉

Scruff and her owner were having a completely normal day, with Scruff being given a wash in her owner's garden, until she decided she'd much rather escape and go one her own adventure! She wandered to the local pub where she was found by a member of the public and brought into us for a chip check.

Scruff had a microchip with all the details up to date, and so we called her owner who was frantically driving around looking for her! Meanwhile, we found out it was her birthday and had a little party with her! 🥳

We hope you enjoy your birthday jaunt, Scruff, and your owner has recovered from his mini heart attack! 🤭

This week we wishes our nurse, Monet, a very happy birthday 🎉

And what better way to celebrate than with puppy cuddles! We just couldn't resist having Chuckles in to reception for a snuggle 🥰

Ever wondered how we would CT a rabbit? 🤔

Wonder no more! Here is Rufus, styling the conscious method to avoid a general anaesthetic, which carries a greater risk in bunnies. Rufus came out of his scan no worse for wear and enjoyed a couple hours on fluids to flush through the contrast 🐰

Mischievous Mambo is keeping his owners on their toes already! At just 5 months old, he has already had more than his fair share of vet visits! 😯

He first managed to cause a small chip fracture of one of the bones in his front left foot, for which he was prescribes pain medication and rest. The rest proved a big challenge for this energetic boy! On one of his short toilet trips outside he managed to leap off a low wall, landing awkwardly and causing fracture of his back left leg!!

Tibial crest avulsion fractures are a really common fracture in puppies. They happen because the growth plate where the bone is growing and not yet fused is weaker than the surround ligaments and tendons. In Mambo's case the impact caused a small fragment of bone to pulled off his shin bone by the strength of his knee cap ligament- OUCH! ❤️‍🩹

This requires prompt action, as puppies heal so quickly that we didn't want it reattaching in the wrong place, or causing the mechanics of his knee to be affected long term. He underwent surgery to pin the piece of bone back in place, and is already feeling better and back to his old tricks! 💕

He is growing super fast, and may need that pin removed again once the bone is healed to prevent it causing changes in bone growth as he grows.

His recovery is going smoothly so far and he has learnt his lesson about falling off things!

We hope you keep out of mischief in the future Mambo! 🤭

Little and large 🥰

We just love seeing a 'mini me', so when Obie came in for his puppy vaccines, everyone was totally in love with "Baby Taz" 🤩

Yet, they aren't quite the same mix of breeds despite the similarities. Does anyone have any idea what breeds they both are? 🤔

Beautiful Betty Boo came in recently for her 6 month Healthcare Plan check-up with nurse, Jo 💗

She decided she most definitely had not eaten enough peanut butter, so hopped up onto Jo's chair to try to steal it! 🤭

Until next time Betty Boo!! 🐾

It's 🐰

We had Rocky in a little while back as she had a swelling appear on the left side of her face. It was thought to be an abscess and needed a little help to treat it.

Rocky came in to stay with us for the day, where she had dental x-rays to find out if the abscess was linked to any teeth. Nothing obvious was found, so the team proceeded to flush the wound.

As rabbit pus is very thick, the wound was sutured open to delay healing and allow the air to get to the bacteria and help to heal it. The owner was able to continue flushing at home as well as treating with medication, the sutures were removed and the wound has healed beautifully at home 🐇

It was lovely to see Rocky recovered so well with us and she was happy eating away in the kennel 🥰
